How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

We had a problem with a window refusing to close in the bedroom, which made the room very cold. We explained the situation to the receptionist, who said, "Other than her trying to close it, there wasn't much she could do if I couldn't close it. "... I managed to fix it myself in the end, but not great customer service. It's difficult to know where to go to eat as all the lights were off in the dining room/bar area at 6 pm when we went down and there was no signage, again with breakfast... it wasn't pointed out where we needed to go.
The views are stunning. I forgot to ask the person's name, but they were probably a manager and/or head chef who came to our rescue when we explained we needed a gluten-free option at dinner and breakfast... could not have done more for me, and she was so lovely with my children. She really made our stay. The room was also fantastically laid out... the girls had their own bedrooms, and it was all spotlessly clean.

2 small comments...no hair dryer...no complimentary biscuits with tea/coffee. Also 1 other point...arrived at front door and did not have pin number to enter so had to phone staff..
The location.the bedroom was beautiful modern clean..bed super comfy.great sleep

The mattress was soft and carpet stained in room 8, but we understand that improvements and updates are being made.
Breakfast was very good, preferred plated service as plates were hot, unable to have hot plates on buffet style, also only scrambled egg on buffet .Good choice of items

Panic stations when I asked for a facility to charge my E.Bike Just needed access to a 13Amp socket.

Light over mirror in bathroom worked intermittently. Came on when first switched on, went off a few moments later and then couldn’t turn it on again. Same thing happened the next morning.
I arrived late and hadn’t eaten. The other guests had all gone to bed. The lady was warm and welcoming and provided me with a much needed hot meal and a large glass of wine. Invaluable service and much appreciated. Room clean and spacious and bed was very comfortable.

Not much really but when we got back at night the bar was already closed and we would have liked the opportunity for a last wind down drink in the hotel. It didn't spoil our stay but would have been nice.
All was very good and we need a airfield mention for Sally who looked after us very well on both days. They even got tinned tomatoes in specially for us for breakfast after one of our group mentioned they preferred them. Excellent personal service.

The floors creaked dreadfully, so disturbed sleep.
Sally was exceptionally helpful and a real asset to the Hotel.

On arrival we were welcomed by Sally who was very nice and helpful. She gave us the front door key, our room key and talked us through things. The room was clean and comfortable with a double bed, tv and bathroom in one room plus two single beds in an adjoining room. There was a free car park alongside the property. Complimentary tea, coffee and milk were provided. Just a few minutes' drive from Thirsk the property has a very good location. A one-night stay in the family room is very good value for money.

Heating came on during the night which made the room very warm.
Big breakfast, family room was very good with a separate room of twin beds off the main room. Quite area and staff very friendly.

The breakfast could have been better , no toast or juice if there was no one told us about it . It wasn’t worth £8 each .
The bed was really comfortable, but the noise from next door very loud . The room was very clean Breakfast was not the best the bacon was really dried out couldn’t eat it .

Extractor fans very loudto the point when next room adjacent went to bathroom it wakes you up.allso can hear everything.needs insulation on partition walls.this is from an ex hotelier.
Staff fantastic food great and very good value.served well.could not ask for more on that point.so a big 10/10 from me.one girl stood out(you no how you are)it would have been allso nice to see a dress code.all staff.but keep working hard and it will come 👍

I found the bed to be far too firm for my liking so didn't get the best night's sleep but I appreciate that's a matter of personal preference.
Excellent host, friendly, efficient, very accommodating and happy to provide an early breakfast.

We arrived 15 mins earlier than check in but was told it would cost £20 if wanted to check in early, the room was freezing , no heating on beginning of February,so they gave us an heater,when we asked about heating, also stated WiFi but it wouldn't connect us
Lovely views of the countryside,room was clean & beds were comfy the bar was open and they served food, altho didn't try any ,its about 2 miles into thirsk , so booked taxis there an back which cost us around £22 there and back which is a bit steep but it was cheaper to stay there an book taxis than stay in the square
