FAQs about hotels in Loire Valley
Castles, Vineyards and Views
Boasting a staggering number of castles, the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Loire Valley also has picturesque vineyards and riverside towns. Once noble retreats, many of the region’s chateaux are now hotels on Booking.com.
With an imposing castle as well as charming half-timbered buildings, Angers is the meeting point of 3 rivers that flow into the Loire. One of these, the Sarthe, continues to Le Mans, a historic town famous for its 24-hour car race, while Saumur is best known for its horse shows and square castle overlooking the Loire.
Chinon’s large hilltop castle once housed French and English kings, while Villandry castle hosted discussions between the 2 nations. Its beautiful gardens are in geometric patterns, similar to those by Chenonceaux castle spanning the Cher River.
Between the 2 is Tours with its towering cathedral and colourful medieval core. Amboise is a little further east and has a chateau overlooking the region’s typical stone buildings with grey roofs. It also has several Loire Valley hotels with pools.
Blois has yet another royal castle, though its understated exterior doesn’t prepare you for the incredible interior. Nearby Chambord has the largest and most magnificent castle, and the Loire continues to Orléans, a medieval city famed for Joan of Arc and an amazing cathedral. At the opposite end of Sologne Forest is a fabulous cathedral in Bourges.

We had 3 nights here which felt just right.
We had 3 nights here which felt just right. We did a walking tour on day 1 and the following day we visited Les Machines de I’ll. On our final day we walked around le Jardin des Plantes. We had lots of good food and drink along the way and would definitely recommend Chez Maman for good food and quirky decor. Worth noting that public transport is free at weekends!Guest review byFionaUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Tours is a great city.
Tours is a great city. Excellent information Bureau near the railway station. Limited shops and restaurants near the stations, but major chains along Rue Nationale which leads to the two historic areas of Tours: the Cathedral Precinct and the Historical Old City Precinct. Fabulous old 12th Century buildlings, squares, cobbled streets, bars and restaurants - fabulous ambiance and well worth a visit. One of the highlights of my visit. Undertook a half day excursion on the second day to two chateaux (Villandry and Azay-le-Rideau) in the Loire Valley - another highlight with an excellent guide.Guest review byAnonymous - 8.0

Place Martroi great central spot , lots of cafes eateries etc. in the old town & down to the river. Cathedral lived up to expectations. Don’t bother with the sightseeing train - little to see that you can’t do on foot.Guest review byIainUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Blois is a very old historic city with a Royal Chateau and a House of Magic. Very good for families with children. There are many other Castles and a Zoo nearby. All in All, it seemed to be a family oriented, international vacation destination. It was hard to keep up with all the languages we heard !Guest review byBarryepsteinUnited States - 10.0
Angers city is easily accessible from Nantes by train.
Angers city is easily accessible from Nantes by train. (35Mins). Take a walk along the far side of the old bridge from the food hall and find the restaurants sited along the river bank, where most of the locals hang out. River boat trips can also be booked from this location. The Chateau museum is well worth a visit and provides a history and views of the city.Guest review byGarry RoystonUnited Kingdom - 10.0

The closed street with restaurants at the foot of the castle, the river with huge wall up to the castle, the tiny staircase we found that took us to the top of the wall and then another to go back down to the city, the short walk to the castle and Clos Luce, all so beautiful.Guest review byMcHaleUnited States - 8.0
Lovely relaxed atmosphere with some great restaurants.
Lovely relaxed atmosphere with some great restaurants. The Chateau was interesting but I've visited better. The Cavalry museum was informative and only 6 euros for entry. Loads of tourists around in August but this just added to the ambiance. Clean streets and no litter!Guest review byEscapade TaildraggerUnited Kingdom - 6.0

I needed to find a bed without any dinner or other facilities late in the day and only for the night as would be moving on early the next day. Therefore cost was the primary concern. It was cheap and the bed comfortable, though the room noisy when other guests were moving around the building or noisy in their rooms. Don't take breakfast option, it was poor value and not as you might expect when at reception. Behind reception is a pleasant looking restaurant, however breakfast for this hotel is in a side room which is not so pleasant and with not a great selection of food and drink. Check in staff did not make this clear when option offered at check in.Guest review byPatrickGermany - 6.0

Very tired looking which is sad because it is in a perfect location for shopping centres and being on a main road it was easy to find at night. So easy to get to a beautiful shopping centre just a few minutes away.Guest review byRuthUnited Kingdom - 6.0
It was just too small for the price.
It was just too small for the price. There was close to no floor space and the window could not be opened and the aircon was running non-stop and made the room unbearably hot. Not nice and the staff was not very service-minded.Guest review byMaison FrostDenmark
