Anne and Yuuki
Nunome-ya is a traditional Japanese house built in the early Showa era. We, Yuuki and Anne, call it home, and we warmly welcome you to stay with us. The second floor is exclusively for your party, ensuring complete privacy as there will be no other guests during your stay. It features four traditional Japanese-style rooms separated by charming vintage fusuma (sliding paper doors), providing a serene atmosphere. You’ll sleep on comfortable, Japan-made cotton futons for a restful night’s sleep. Free Wi-Fi is available, and we provide heating and air conditioning upon request. A private toilet and sink are also available on this floor. We live on the ground floor, so the kitchen and bathroom are shared with us, but we always ensure that you have plenty of privacy. You are welcome to use the fully equipped kitchen to prepare meals, there are shops near us that sell local ingredients. The traditional bathroom features a lockable door and a designated area for cleaning and drying clothes. As a Japanese-Swiss couple, we can offer multi-language support in English, French, and Japanese.
We are Anne and Yuuki Nunome. We live in the stunning Japanese Alp and run a inn together. Yuuki's primary job is web design and Anne works as a filmmaker. We aspire in a simplier and slower lifestyle. We wish to turn the house into a local and zero-waste space, where guests can take a break from the busy city life and reconnect with nature. We also want to promote Japanese culture and tradition. We are more than happy to provide our guests with detailed information about the best regional sightseeing spots, seasonal activities, and local specialities. Additionally, we can assist with reservations at local restaurants so you can enjoy an authentic taste of the region. Let us help you make the most of your stay!
Nunome-ya invites you to Iwamura, a historic castle town near the southern border of Gifu prefecture that will make you step back in time. Nestled amidst beautiful mountainous sceneries, Iwamura is known for its charming Edo-period atmosphere which will transport you as you walk between centuries-old merchant houses, artisan shops, and teahouses. Follow tranquil trails steeped in history and immerse yourself in this region’s timeless charm to enjoy a slow life. Just a short stroll from our inn lies a path up to the ruins of Iwamura Castle, once one of Japan’s tallest and most resilient mountaintop fortresses. Often shrouded in mist, it eventually became known as “the Misty Castle”. The castle’s history is rich with tales of resilience, including that of Onna Joshu, a lady most beloved by the town, now celebrated through our local sake and the traditional shops that still hang banners in her honour. Far from the city’s hum, the silence is only usually broken by a bird’s call and the gentle chorus of frogs. At night, you can walk through quiet streets lit only by soft lights and the stars, and find a moment of serenity. If you feel weary or are looking for timeless tranquillity, we hope that coming to Nunome-ya will soothe you and that the slow pace of nature will provide the restorative peace you need.
