Bought a 24 hour bus pass. Was really easy to navigate to cathedral, botanic gardens, tromso museum, airport. Central downtown is very easy to walk around, harbor is pleasant. We got a rental car to explore outside the city after that for 5 nights before flying on. Iconic arctic city. Good people. Feels a little like it's geared up for American cruise ships; the main street has 7-11s and the world's most northerly MacDonalds and several giant souvenir stores. And, boy, is it hard to get a reasonably priced vegetarian meal? Tromsø is a great city with plenty to do and see.
Tromsø is a great city with plenty to do and see. There are the usual tourist shops and good restaurants. We hiked up the mountain ( cable car hadn’t started its season. ). We saw the Arctic Cathedral and the gateway to the Arctic Arch . The people are friendly . Examples of great places to see and experience here...: Fjellheisen mountain once weather is good, Botanical garden was beautiful, Bus & hurtigruten round trip through Lyngen mountain area, Folkeparken once weather is good.. just to relax in the sun and observe surrounding nature. For great bakery and coffee, visit Backstube Tromsø. For drinks and food at a terrace or nice indoor dining in old repair workshop, visit Maskinverkstedet restaurant.
