Cavallaro Hotel is perfect. First: Silvana is exceptional; she drove all the way to Delft to bring us the cash we’d left in the room safe. We were totally blown away!
The suite was very elegantly decorated with beautiful accessories, furniture and finishing touches. The room, which opens onto a private terrace, felt like a calm oasis with full length block-out drapes, beautiful wood floors, lovely wallpaper and lighting. The elegant black and gold bathroom, with a shower and tub, has excellent fixtures, great lighting and a view of the terrace. We arrived to a vase of pink roses and a welcome note.
The train station, Grote Markt etc are easy walking distance as are very good restaurants.

Haarlem is a pretty town, and a lively destination.
Haarlem is a pretty town, and a lively destination. I mainly walked around, looking at the canals and houses. One of my photos shows one of the older canalside housing (green door). The station is a lovely Art Nouveau building with tiled pictures, the only one in the Netherlands. Transport is easy, and Haarlem is convenient for Amsterdam, Leiden, etc, and for visiting the bulb fields at Keukenhof in spring.

Haarlem is beautiful in it's own right with lots of historic buildings, and charming streets which have been greened with tree, shrub and flower planting. There is the Frans Hals museum to visit, and much more. Take a walking tour of "Monumental Haarlem"
Haarlem is also very conveniently situated for Amsterdam and surrounding areas. We used public transport all the time. Just swipe on and off the bus or train, and everything is taken care of. Really simple, and it all works smoothly.
We also found some really good restaurants for our evening meals.

Haarlem is a wonderful city to stay in as it has the canals, lots of history, good shopping and plentiful restaurants.
The Grotemarkt has the oldest organ in Europe which Mozart played on and Corrie Ten Boom’s house(who hid the Jews in WW2) is better than Anne Franks! The very first museum in the Netherlands is also here-Teylers. The Saturday market is wonderful.
It is only 15 minutes by train back into Amsterdam and you have a better feel of regular Dutch folks in this beautiful town.

First, I really liked Amsterdam.
First, I really liked Amsterdam. But it was really really crowded, even the first week of April. Then, when I got to Haarlem, I realized it was similar to Amsterdam, with all the old world Europe charm, old buildings, & canals, but not the hordes of crazy tourists. I ended up liking Haarlem better than Amsterdam! Even better than Rotterdam, and maybe the Haag (except I only spent a few hours there). Easy to walk everywhere, and I rented a bicycle and rode all the way to the beach and back on easy, nice separated bike paths. Also, the bike riders are not as aggressive as in Amsterdam. So as an American tourist, in my 50s, I felt perfectly comfortable riding my bike all over. Of course, you still need to be hyper aware of oncoming cyclists and cars… also, they had a secure bike garage near the main central Plaza, where you could lock your bike for free, with a guard watching over it. If you left it overnight, you had to pay something. So I was able to lock my eBay inside there while visiting main attractions in the plaza, like the church with the pipe organ.
I will definitely choose this as a base next time, instead of Amsterdam. I considered staying in Leiden too, but never got a chance to go there.

Haarlem is a beautiful safe city with plenty of lovely restaurants and bars. Walking is the best way to get around the city . I would recommend hiring bikes and cycling out to Zaandvort which is completely along a cycle path to a stunning beach. There are plenty of museums and the windmill is worth a visit . There is also a food market in the square on Saturday morning
Fantastic location, close to all the sights, and with a very handy airport bus directly outside the front door. Owners Ad & Esther are lovely people, who provide a fresh & fabulous breakfast each morning. Apartment itself is historic, beautifully furnished, and with access to a charming garden. Very comfortable & quiet.
Little kitchen is very handy.
We had a fantastic 6-night stay, at the end of our 3-week trip in Netherlands. Would recommend to anyone looking for a lovely place to stay in Haarlem.
This was our home base whilst we explored Amsterdam and Haarlem. Wonderful staff, warm and clean rooms, great bar within the hotel’s own bowling alley - was nice to have a drink and snack although they have nice restaurants on site we were out touring most days. Easy 10 mins walk to Sparnwoude station - train to Haarlem or Amsterdam every 10 mins. Situated next to a nature reserve. on-site carpark a bonus as we had a hire car. Highly recommend for a few day stay to explore Netherlands.
We stayed for a week in the split level apartment. It was really quaint and comfy, and felt like a home from home. The children enjoyed using the cafe in the afternoon, and the atmosphere was always chilled. Location was fab and we would stay again! Haarlem has so much to offer, culturally, with a great selection of historic sites, museums and restaurants. It was really easy to access the train into Amsterdam too.
The rooms are super clean and newly refurbished. The double beds are really big and extremely comfortable, the bed linen is new and clean. The location is just 10 min. walk from the Haarlem railway station and 5 min. walk to the city center and all cafes and restaurants in Haarlem. The city of Haarlem is just 20 min on the direct train to Amsterdam Centraal. We’ll definitely stay at this hotel next time!
First the apartment was spotless, the beds more comfortable than home and it has an excellent location. Also the internet and TVs worked great. Haarlem is a charming town and I will chose to stay here over Amsterdam in the future. It's an easy train ride in to see the sights. Haarlem itself has enough to please without going anywhere else. If there on a saturday be sure to enjoy the farmers market.
Haarlem is a charming location and easily reached by 15 minute train ride from Amsterdam Central Station. Our host was wonderful and provided a substantial daily in room breakfast. The room in this 1700's structure is very comfortable and spacious with modern conveniences. There is grocery store across the street and a quite number of quaint restaurants within walking distance.
My stay here was very good . The owners went out of their way to make my stay as comfortable as possible . I really enjoyed learning about Haarlem and Netherlands from my host who gave me great ideas about what to see and do during my stay . An added bonus was the use of a bicycle that allowed me to explore further and enjoy the area even more .
We stayed for two nights and the location was perfect. The walking distance both to the main station (to take the train to the beach or Amsterdam), where the parking garage ist located, as well as to the city centre are very short. A huge bonus: the hotel is in a very very quiet street, so the nights were highly relaxing.
Incredible staying! We were greatly surprised with a room upgrade when arriving and the room was fantastic! Great services and the personnel were really welcoming. Amsterdam is not far, only 15 minutes by train, and the hotel is well-located in Haarlem, close to fantastic restaurants. I will definetely come back
Gorgeous unit with rooftop balcony. Free coffee and wine. Laundry machine in suite was an unexpected delight. Staff were lovely. Location is excellent. Comfortable couches, chairs and bed. Easy walk to the train station. Located right in the central pedestrian zone. Very large size suite for the Netherlands .
Great location near the train station but not noisy. I ended up not really spending much time in the hotel but it felt like a pretty standard business hotel. The finishes (carpet, etc.) felt a little run down but it was absolutely adequate for my purpose of exploring Haarlem. It also had functioning AC.
What a great place to stay. Henk and Anne Marie were fabulous hosts and made us feel really welcome. The location is perfect for exploring lovely Haarlem but also very easy if you wish to go into Amsterdam. The room was a great size and very clean, the breakfasts were great. We will definitely be back!
This is a very modern comfortable hotel with everything you need. We paid for breakfast and it was good value for money. The room was spacious, a good shower and a balcony. Don’t be put off by the location, frequent buses run just outside to the centre of Haarlem, the station and Amsterdam.
We loved that this hotel was in the center of Haarlem. It was close enough to the train station to be able to walk, and close to shops and restaurants. The room was comfortable and clean, and having a mini-fridge was a bonus!
The place is very near to haarlem station. East to reach from Amsterdam. Host was really friendly. The place was well clean and well maintained. I will be going back for sure when I visit haarlem next time.
very nice hostel first time for us older folks trying this experience out nice that supper and adult beverages were available after a long day of touring Amsterdam! friendly folks working there
Haarlem was all the charm of Holland and none of the touristy yuk of Amsterdam. It was all so charming and the shopping was great! The hotel was perfect in every way. Breakfast was to die for!!
