We recently stayed 4 nights at The Oberoi Resort in Lombok in a luxury villa with an ocean view, mistakenly expecting a top-notch experience after reading all the positive reviews and knowing that it is the most expensive resort in Lombok, at approximately EUR 350 per night. Unfortunately, the service level fell far below expectations, whether from their front desk or restaurant team.
The overall ambience of the resort is great and it offers the best sunset view from the hotel pool.
Villa Experience: Upon arrival, we were assigned an ocean view villa that had a pervasive bad odour. After complaining, we were moved to a different villa, only to find a cockroach on the bed there. It is shocking that such basic checks were not conducted before assigning the villas to guests. We tried to contact housekeeping, the front desk, guest relations, the operator, and room service around 10:30 PM to remove the cockroach, but it seemed they just put their numbers on hold so guests couldn’t disturb them. We had to personally go to the front desk to get the cockroach removed from the bed!
There were ants in the cupboard which spread to our clothes—how disgusting is that? Just another disappointment!
The villas are not well isolated, as we could hear loud prayers from 4:00 to 5:00 in the morning, disturbing our sleep and overall relaxation.
Restaurant and Dining Experience: The quality of the food is good, the breakfast selection is great, but the service level does not justify the 5-star rating!
The service in the resort's restaurants was extremely disappointing. The staff seemed poorly trained and inattentive. On multiple occasions, we were served food without the necessary cutlery. One glaring example was when we pre-ordered biryani a day in advance as it requires six hours of preparation time. When it was finally served, they forgot to bring the raita, an essential part of the dish, as well as the serving spoon. We had to remind them, which was quite embarrassing.

Nothing. We paid up front in good faith and vacated within 2 hours before dusk had set in with the weather turned rainy. Advertised as úncancellable', Booking.com should have a category like ''view before payment', if it cannot guarantee the basic safety and comfort standards.
