122 on Charlotte aka The Old Bank is a wonderful base to explore the Cooktown region and part of the history of the town. The large bed in our room could have kept us in it all day it was so comfortable and Tania made sure we had everything we needed and more for a relaxed and cruisy New Years break. With so many spots to explore and such delightful and historic accomodation we aim to be back as soon as possible!

The botanic gardens are a must. The separately themed gardens are well chosen. The James Cook museum is very interesting. If you don't want to go on a cruise or go fishing there's not much to do.

Very nice place museum was overpriced for a bit of captain cook info and the damn wind never stops but nice lunch at lawn bowls club in main street was very easy nice and tasty. Plenty of things to see all on main street so easy parking and walking track along waters edge. Waterpark and Music ship for the younger ones or ones that want to be young again.

Great. We are at the fish n chips on the wharf. At COOKS LANDING KIOSKS was 10/10 mackerel prawn calamari. Also did the The Bloomfield track on our run was easy with staying a night at cape tribulation campground. After that was the 2 steep incline and declines. 22% and 33%. With one coming down was not cement lije the other. Know your 4WD buttons etc before hitting into it.

Cooktown has a quaint old era feel with the heritage buildings in the main street leading down to the wharf. Fortunately we were in town on Saturday to experience the local market. Whilst not overly big, the friendly locals made the visit worthwhile. There was a good selection of local produce but a highlight was meeting local celebrity artist, Helen Gordon, who entertained us for some time with the story of her family, In the pictures you can see Helen with a picture that we purchased. A longer trip would have enabled deeper exploration along the Endeavour River and the national park. Good views over the town and of the sunset were obtained from Grassy Hill - a hill that Captain Cook climbed when he was having the Endeavour repaired in the bay below.

Historic town - very cultural significant history - extremely interesting museum. RSL - good value/drinks/meals Excellent road access to Cooktown (but not in the "wet" season). Sovereign Resort did not accept American Express - only place in town that didn't, and staff in cocktail lounge had no idea what a Champagne Cocktail was !! (& used electric blender - not hand shaken = 007 most unimpressed.

It's a long drive . . . but it's a once in a lifetime trip . . . There is a lot of history to take in. The Museum is worth a visit . . . but it certainly needs some TLC. RSL provided a great meal :-) Botanic Gardens are small but lovely.

A great location and an excellent place to stay. The accommodation was the upper floor of an older style Queenslander home with traditional louvre panels and ceiling fans. It was comfortable, well appointed and wanted for nothing. Our host was delightful. We enjoyed staying here. Cooktown had interesting sites, a great history and visits to the museum and the foreshore Capt. Cook related sites are a must do 🙂

A great guesthouse halfway up Grassy Hill ( you p’ll need a car to reside there), a super-generous kitchen underneath the main house, with just two guest rooms). Magnificent views over the Endeavour River. Wonderful hosts. We enjoyed the guided 5 km hike along a ‘song line’ , a track past Aboriginal rock paintings, out of Hope Vale. Enquire at Cooktown History Centre on Main Street.
