At the centre of the Mayan Riveria is Playa del Carmen, a playground for hip Europeans and toned-and-tanned Americans. This resort town showcases the renowned white-sand beaches of the Caribbean Coast along the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico.
Playa del Carmen's powdery white sands are nestled between Cancun to its north, Tulum in the south and the island of Cozumel, 20 km east with its fantastic diving in the nearby Great Maya Reef. Awake from an afternoon nap to take a dip, go snorkelling or deep-sea fishing in the beautiful blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
Playa is an easy choice as a holiday destination with its range of hotels, many first-class restaurants and beachside nightclubs. Quinta Avienda, also known as 5th Avenue, is the main tourist hub and shopping district. For a more authentic Mexico experience, venture outside of the centre to a local cenote (sinkhole) or Mayan ruins in Tulum.

The beach wasn't swimmable because it had a lot of rocks, a lot of seaweed and the hotel didn't clean it. Go to Cancún, Playa del Carmen is not beautiful. The resort: Yucatan princess was the worst part, as the food served there was horrible. I came home very sad.

Having spent some time in Cancun, (zona hotelera) before visiting playa del Carmen, I think I would definitely prefer the beaches in Cancun. Playa del Carmen had a lot of seaweed and I found that unpleasant. The sea was alright, the facilities we didn't use because our accommodation was right in front of the beach.

This is a very bizzy touristic resort. If you want to go clubbing and drinking, this is the place to be. If you want to find the real Mexican vibe, you need to go and search further away to Valladolid and Merida.

I felt immersed in mature .Posada Mariposa is located in a good central spot on 5th Ave. I could walk in many directions and find what I was looking for within 8 minutes. the beach Mamita was a short walk to the ocean. La Vaca Gaucho just steps away from Mariposa had the best steak dinner . La Vagabundo was so conviene . I could walk steps across the street to get my morning coffee or breakfast . and they open at 7 AM as I’m an early bird .
