I loved the beauty of the property itself and the feeling of being in a more secluded, jungle-like, natural environment! The lagoon pool was lovely and refreshing, even deep enough in parts to dive. It's a very serene, relaxing, quiet environment as others have said. My cabana/bungalow was lovely. The hosts/owners, Vanessa and Manuel, were exceptionally kind to me, even offering short rides for me given that I was alone and without a rental car. This is a family-run, low-key resort -- it was a pleasure getting to know their children too. I even played ping-pong and games in the pool with them! Vanessa recommended the Akumal Bay Beach to me as well (warm/easy to swim in water located at a nature preserve called Tsuuk Akumal Parque Natural - note, there is an entrance fee) and a beach bar/restaurant called Loi-Ha. If you go, try the fish tacos - made with grouper - fantastic!
Located on the coast of Akumal Bay, 45 minutes south of Playa del Carmen, this hotel offers hotel rooms and bungalows. It features an on-site spa, dove center, and restaurant.

The rooms are great, the pool area is nice although 50% was closed which made it really hard to get a seat during the day! Also hadn’t been made aware that the biggest pool area was going to be out of service

I think it should be clearly stated that the ocean swimming and snorkeling on the property is quite limited unless you want to pay for a guide and wear a life jacket. The areas where paid guides take people are often crowded.
No groceries stores in the area, only 7-11 type shops with processed foods.
Breakfast (continental) was quite good. To upgrade to egg dishes was way overpriced.
Very few dinner options available. A couple of restaurants within walking distance. No evening dining at the hotel itself.
If you are not an ocean swimmer or snorkeler but just want to swim in a pool or lay on the beach this place would work for you.

Akumal is a nice town with a very nice beach and a great option to observe sea turtles in the Turtle bay, do a diving course or just chill at the beach. Unfortunately, you can't get to any of the beaches for free, all of the entrance is paid. We found the local guys who were shouting at us and always wanting money for something or trying to sell us something quite disturbing and some of them even rude to us as foreign visitors. The prices the beach are very high in the proximity od the beach. At the end of our stay someone ransacked our friend's room and soon after stole my handbag when we were sitting in a restaurant in Akumal town. I think there is a thief mafia operating around.

There is lots to Akumal not just a restaurant and a little beach. There are beaches, many different restaurants and cenotes. Tami and Elliot will help you understand the taxi system and also how to hop the combis (Public van service) that are cheap and easy to use. They are not chicken busses. There are cenotes everywhere. Some very tiny and some meandering through the jungle. An easy one is Cenote Azul. No real snorkeling but a beautiful place. Charge $10 dollars or much better rate if you pay on pesos. Use pesos as often as possible. Get pesos from the ATMs they have the best conversion rate. The condo beach is a bit of a walk, it who doesn’t need walking, but the cenote flows out into the ocean. Great a snorkeling. Big variety of fish. You can see the transition layer between fresh and salt water. I think our favorite place where we went twice was La Buena Vida restaurant on Akumal beach and after dinner walk up the beach And hitchhiking a golf cart ride back to the highway for a taxi ride ride north back to Sirenis. Most everyone speaks tolerable English but be respectful and learn some rudimentary Spanish like bathroom, beer, check please, thank you and please. Whew. Can you tell we had a great eight day trip?

It was a good place for our troop to convene - 7 in all. We had some fun - particularly at the shows. The food was good but not great. The staff was great. The beach was a disappointment - full of seaweed and rocky. Trucks on the beach at 7am sunrise a big turnoff. I would not return unless the beach situation improves.

I didn't spend time in Akumal proper- most of the time was on the resort, but there seemed to be a LOT of options for activities on that stretch of road between Tulum and Playa del Carmen, so as a starting point, finding a resort in Akumal is a great location. My friend and I took a 30min taxi to Playa del Carmen and a 20min ride to swim with dolphins. We also went with the wedding party to Tulum and a cenote which was gorgeous and that trip was very short as well. Lots to do in the area!
Amazing food, a'la carte restaurants, drinks and Service. Hotel Beach very nice located. Stuff do really great job there. They make sure you have all you need all the time. What also made our vacation special was entartaiment team! Great thanks for Victor for amazing morning joga and also Anahi, Valentino, Gustavo and others for lot of fun activities. Their Energy and Creativity for sure makes this place special. Hotel itself is beautifull place but great People working there is for sure the main reason for us to comeback there soon!!!!
small, personal and super casual. loved that there was a washer and dryer available for use. the room, upgraded from dorm to private due to confusion on booking.com, was just perfect. nothing fancy, but it was very clean, had hot shower, air conditioning and the bed so comfortable. tv was an unexpected surprise, and wifi was strong enough. Location was also good. Made for a nice walk everyday to go to the beach. It was also easy to find.
This is my second stay at Las Villas Akumal. I think it's a very nice facility close to the beach. An ideal place to relax or make trips.
My stay was in apartment number 001A. Everyone writes that it is in the basement. In my opinion this is not true. The location is perfect and has a great view of the jungle!
A big plus is the possibility of late check-out.
It's great that we can take a kayak for free.
Great location and facilities, with lovely touches - we particularly liked the complimentary toiletries which have a lovely honey scent, and the opportunity to use the kayaks, which was great fun. The stretch of beach up to akumal is dominated by hotels and resorts so you won't get much of a feel for local culture - but in Akumal centro (not playa) there's a nice fruteria and less touristy amenities.
David and Dan were very helpful and friendly. They have lived in Akumal for over 20 years so have extensive local knowledge. The apartment is extremely comfortable exceeding our expectations. We loved birdwatching and lounging on the rooftop and sitting in their beautiful garden. The fabulous lagoon, Yalku, is a few minutes walk and Akumal beach nearby. We stayed for 17 relaxing days. Wonderful.
Perfect little casita.
Two Full size beds (very firm/hard) but was fine with me.
Small kitchenette with essentials, refrigerator/freezer (good)
5 gallon drinking water with pump.
Nothing fancy but just perfect .
Snorkeling right off the beach out to coral reef
Great/cool restaurants/coffee shop/convenient store with necessities including beer and liquor
I will definitely be back.
This accommodation is absolutely perfect! Very clean, seems to be quite new. Our host was soo kind. He was ready to help us with everything. Location is good - just a few minutes from Akumal Beach where you can snorkling with turtles. 30 min from Tulum, 30 min from Playa Del Carmen. This accomodation is in kind a private area where we felt safe. I can definately recomend Solmare.
Great hosts with knowledge of the area and helped understand transportation options and help us select locations and experiences that best fit our wishes. Everything from groceries to the Cenotes that might interest us the best. Even gave us a lift to a recommended restaurant on the beach at Akumal. Excellent view of the bay with the beach at your feet. Great place. Great hosts!
Nice modern hostel, got a pool on top, solid breakfast, big kitchen. Many places to eat around, small supermarket. The walk to Akumal beach is a little long but it's fine. Staff is amazing, had a problem with my locker that was solved right away. Can book diving and snorkeling related stuff right there. Easy to meet new people and share experiences/travel plans.
It was really good! I don’t consider this a 5 star resort though. some things felt cheap. The drinks and the food were good but not great. Same with the room. The pools are fantastic and there is plenty of room. Service was always good. Just not quite 5 star. This is more or less a typical all inclusive.
The location was fabulous; easy access to the beach and snorkeling. Included continental breakfast was a good sized plate of fruit, a lot of toast, coffee, and juice. Other good restaurants were nearby. Staff were helpful in arranging money exchange and shuttle to the next hotel.
The resort was all inclusive with several restaurants and wide food selection. Most of the staff at the restaurants were attentive. The resort had multiple pools with a lazy river and had daily activities including a dolphin show and nightly dance shows.
older Mexican hotel. not a fancy all inclusive. great location, beautiful pool. sargassum sea weed on beach is a problem but all beach hotels in this area are effected. Hotels lol ha restaurant and bar are great. Hotel staff helpful and responsive.
Bathroom very big with a bathtub and a shower! the shower hat two showers (rain and hand!) a big bed, (but a little bit to hard for my taste.) the hotel is small and with nice pool and a room to play games or have a private phonecall...
Fantastic place, right at the beach, where you can see hatching turtles and beautiful corals and fish to the right from the hotel at the pierce. Clean swimming pools and friendly staff. We loved our ocean view villa!
24-hour access to the cenotes. Wonderful hosts and helpful and friendly staff. Beautiful room and gorgeous surroundings. Walking distance to the town of Akumal with great local restaurants and Akumal beach.
The beach was the best feature in this property. It definitely has one of the best beaches in the area. The property also has several pools. The hotel staff was very nice and accommodating.
The staff was really nice and proximity to the beach is a huge plus. Kids club was the highlight of the hotel, the staff there was so attentive and caring. Food was over all good
