Founded by the Romans in 38 BC and idyllically located on the Rhine River, Cologne offers the perfect blend of historical and modern Germany. There’s no place more picturesque to drink a Kolsch beer and eat a schnitzel than on the banks of the River Rhine. Here you’ll find the Altstad, or Old Town, with the impressive Cologne Dom on the skyline.
Visitors to Cologne in November can dance the days away at the Carnival Parade. In December, no trip to Cologne’s magical Christmas markets is complete without a steaming mug of Gluhwein.

A city where you can do a lot of good sight-seeing like the Cathedral, shopping and relaxing in the parks and botanical garden. Lot's of good restaurants. The traffic is hectic and you need to be very alert when driving around in the city.
Lot's of parkings availble, easy to find and reach. Not too expensive. Please be aware that on Sunday shops are closed!

Based ideally next to the train station and opposite the cathedral. Only minutes away from the river and between the old town and new.
Some noise in the evening. But expected given the location.
Transportation options were great and in multi language settings.
A good choice of restaurants for all budgets.

I visited Cologne many times and I love it!
I visited Cologne many times and I love it! This time we parked the car at the Köln Arcaden, a big shopping mall in Köln-Deutz on the other side of the Rhine. You can buy a 24 hour ticket there for just €4! But remember to buy this within one hour after driving in. And try to leave a bit earlier to be sure not to pay extra. This happened to me, I had to pay an extra €10, I consider this still cheap for 24 hours parking in a big city. U Bahn and S Bahn station is at walking distance from the mall and you are in the centre in a few stops. The mall itself is fine too by the way.

Cologne was the first place in Germany I had visited 30 years ago. I fell in love with the city then and I still feel the same about it now. I was here this time for a trade fair and it was a great trip with new connections made. It has everything you need. Excellent city.

A cool city that you should definitely visit.
A cool city that you should definitely visit. But be careful when booking hotels, do your research carefully. The same one and I ended up with what I believe are scammers. We traveled in April 2024, and found an inexpensive hotel Downtown Ehrenfeld on booking.
1 night in Cologne
booked a room. check-in after 16.00 - approx. I received a message from the booking office that bed linen is not included in the price, but you can pay an additional 10 euros per set and get.... well, okay, on the road, we won’t change anything, we’ll take it extra....
We arrived at 17.00 and discovered there was no bedding. At the reception we said we need bedding, we are ready to pay extra, they suggested we call Mr. Otto. They gave me a phone number. Ok, let's hurry to see the city, then we'll call you when we get back. We returned at 22.00 - tomorrow we will continue on. We call Mr. Otto - and the answer is: a room without linen, it’s your problem that you don’t have bed linen with you, I can’t help you, but you’ll be indignant and call the police. - this is the result of the conversation... they spat, went to the room, put a jacket under their head, and without undressing went to bed early in the morning on the road. We just started to fall asleep, we hear in the next room they come in and, finding themselves in the same situation, try to resolve the issue with the bed linen and, having received the same thing in response, people did not want to put up with it, turned around, spat on the lost money and left. In the morning we left with an impression of the contrasting city of Cologne - I did not expect that in 2024, in Germany, you could run into such deception of customers. Conclusion - don’t relax, otherwise.....

Loved Cologne, amazing place lots to enjoy and public transport made for a very reasonable way to visit the Cathedral, Old Town and Botanic Gardens. Walked back to city along the side of the Rhine - a very memorable day.
Excellent location close to station. Room was comfortable. Small hotel where staff were very friendly. Breakfast was a very good selection of fresh bread, cheeses, meats etc. We would come back when in Cologne. There is a bakery close by and the old town and key sights are walkable. We used the 9 euro deutsche bahn pass for July to get across the city (and used to get around using local trains in other parts of Germany) to a meal at Pottkind which we can also recommend.
Great location in the centre of Cologne, five minutes walk from the train station, and a about 10 minutes from the beautiful Cathedral. As it was November we also enjoyed the various Christmas markets in the Altstadt, Neumarkt and in the sites of the stunning cathedral towers. Travel to other parts of Germany is easy on the train. The hotel is about 20 minutes on the train from the airport.
The hotel is in a good location - 5 min walk from the Dom and at the same time in a quiet area. We have got the room with the view on the construction site, but it’s not a big deal. Hotel breakfast is nice and has lots of options - savory and sweet. Nice coffee and fresh juice. In general I would recommend this hotel for an easy stay in the center of Cologne.
This is my first time in Germany, everything is okey, and the breakfast is good, worm weather that day, clean street and peaseful environment. The room is spacious and cook tools is fully prepared. Though I did't cook that day.
I like the sofa in the room, it's comfortable and easy to sleep. I can read and chat on it for a whole day if time permitted.
The location is fantastic and the staff was very friendly. The rooms were clean. We had a kitchen and a nice size balcony where we sat some nights and had a beer. We come to Germany every year and we will look to stay here instead of Airbnb. My wife watches movies on her laptop and had no issues using VPN to watch Netflix.
New Hotel/Hostel with all modern facilities.
Must stay place for your next cologne visit.
Free Bed linen, Bath and Hand Towels which you don’t get in Germany. Also you don’t have to bring the used linen to lobby like in other German Hotels.
The best hostel ever !!
Well located hotel in quiet residential area with good public transport links to the city centre. The staff were very helpful, the breakfast is highly recommended and we had a gorgeous view of the lake. Lovely stay.
"Very centrally located hotel in Cologne. The room sizes were okay for a short city trip. The reception staff was very friendly, even during a phone inquiry before check-in. There was a wide selection for breakfast.
Great hotel almost in front of Cologne Cathedral and within walking distance to two Christmas Market and train station. Staff is very nice. Room was very clean and had everything I needed for a comfortable stay.
Ideal location and quiet area.
Hotel staff very friendly, helpful, professional and close.
Breakfast service very correct.
Spacious and comfortable rooms.
Highly recommended for visiting Cologne.
We will repeat.
Short stay for two days in Cologne. Hotel was well located. Check in staff were very friendly and helpful.
Room was good, fresh linen, very nice pillows. Breakfast was sumptuous. Staff were friendly
Lovely boutique hotel - a nicely redone former monastery, friendly staff in one of Cologne‘s not-so touristy areas, but with easy access to the centre and the river.
- The best advantage of this hotel is location, right next to central station, near cathedral.
- The room was very quiet
- We got the room with tub as requested
So far this has been the best hotel experience I had in Germany.
Staff at check in/out was very friendly and helpful.
Accommodation was really great and cozy.
Location is good...walking distance to Cologne Station. Asian staff of the hotel were congenial and warm but the European staff were not that warm & nice!
The hotel was close to the city centre. The room was clean and quiet. The price was good (about the best in Cologne for the distance to the city centre).
