San Gil was a really enjoyable town despite not doing adventure tours. We loved the park for the birds and red squirrels. The town square was interesting to sit, with good restaurants and bars nearby. we also took a bus to Barichara which was really lovely

San Gil is very turistic and influenced by that. Excellent opportunities for recreation and extreme sports, but the horrid traffic can impact travel. The main route from Bogota' to Bucaramanga goes right through it and can really congest the streets. These are old "horse" cart roads in town and the traffic can be "impressive" and difficult to manage. San Gil as a town is not particularly interesting.
San Gil as a town is not particularly interesting. It's for the adventure activities that one comes. We went rafting on Río Suárez with Colombia Rafting Expediciones and I can only recommend them - professional, well-organised team that guides you through the Class 5 rapids while keeping safety always in mind.

The area around San Gil is great for just about everything. We had a car so we were able to tour the roads in and around San Gil and it is beautiful, mountainous country. The Cuevas del Vacas is a must see but not for the faint of heart ( we are part of the over 60 crowd and thoroughly enjoyed it)Larry HerdCanada

Hospitable atmosphere and incredibly nice and helpfull owner Johana with her family made our stay so nice! (ask her about Tejo game!) The room was well equiped, clean and comfortable. It could be seen the owners put significant amount of effort into making the place cozy and clean! Also the shared areas were really aesthetic and pleasant to hang out in. The apartment building is on top of a small but cosy shopping centre which was so convenient! There were all sorts of restaurants, cafés, and even a cinema and a supermarket. The staff there were some of the friendliest and helpful during my 2 months in Colombia. I even had my dorm bed sheets regularly changed there which certainly doesn't happen everywhere. Special shout out to Danielle and Yims for being super helpful. San Gil itself is all about the activities in the nearby mountains and valleys but the people are very welcoming and friendly.
