We only spend one night at Hostal Puerta Roja but were very happy with our stay. The room is very modern, the bed super comfy and the shower is a bliss. The hosts Antonio & his wife are super friendly and even helped us print our ferry tickets - much appreciated! We were also able to leave our luggage at the house after check out and use the common areas before continuing our travel, which was great. Thanks for everything!

All staff made us feel welcome, helped us in any way we needed them at the front desk.
Came back each day to the cleaner been with clean beds, towels and personal touch with the kids teddy's on the bed.
Breakfast was amazing with so much to choose from and all the restaurant staff were exceptionally helpful.
Always someone around the could speak English if needed help with translating the language.

The hotel was quite interesting. It's an gorgeous, older building (though it seems to have been remodeled and kept up well). In a nearby restaurant, we saw a painting of the hotel from an earlier time. The staff at the hotel were very helpful in pointing us to a shop that could help us with a phone problem. I wish we had stayed more than one night, as there were other things we would have done in the area (like see condors).

Old world charm. Most staff were helpful. Senior Claudio was exceptional. His bilingual skills were of great help to us.
As our tour was leaving early, they gave us a packed breakfast.
Having access to Tea and Coffee 24x7 helped in a cold climate. Great location so close to the main square

Very clean rooms, modern design, comfortable beds, excellent location for walking to the city center, restaurants, etc. Ample parking if you have a car. Breakfast is included, it is basic (no hot food such as eggs) but it is sufficient. The gentleman who works there is very attentive, professional and friendly. On days that we had early tours and did not eat breakfast, they prepared a take-out bag with sandwiches, fruit, a drink, and a granola bar. They allowed us a late check-out on the day we left, which was much appreciated.

It really is only a place to go to other better places in Patagonia. The restaurant scene is not great and there’s really not much to do there. I’d say use it as a place to stay overnight to go somewhere else but if you do don’t expect to find any great options for food or entertainment.

A great (very windy) city at the end of the world.
A great (very windy) city at the end of the world. Close to breathtaking scenery (Tierra del Fuego, Torres del Paine) and historical sites. The city felt secure. The fish market offers amazing good value dishes (no vegan options:(). There are good walks close to the city (a national park 15 minutes by car). Punta Arenas is easy to navigate on foot if the weather permits - the wind can bowl you over!!!

Punta Arenas is a nice town.
Punta Arenas is a nice town. But don't expect too much of it. It has really fantastic, great coffee places. And very good restaurants, actually it is amazing that there are so many nice restaurants and so many great coffee shops in such a small town. Apart from that, it is a small town. Don't get me wrong: it is the *town* to be if you want to be at the Strait of Magellans!

Punta Arenas had more to do than I expected!
Punta Arenas had more to do than I expected! I had heard from others that it was a sleepy residential town, but we enjoyed walking along Playa Colon, walking up to Mirador Cerro de la Cruz, shopping for handmade gifts at the Municipal Artesanal Market, petting the community dogs at the Plaza de Armas, touring Cerveceria Austral (reservations needed in advance), going on one of the penguin and sea lion tours, and eating authentic classic Chilean food at La Marmita restaurant. If we had more time, we would've visited some of the nearby museums to learn more about Magellan's sail through the strait. We loved that Ubers were quick and plentiful but that the town was very walkable just about anywhere.

The center of town is quite a distance from the airport.
The center of town is quite a distance from the airport. Punta Arenas is good for a jumping off point to explore Patagonia. For birders, there is a great e-Bird hot spot just out of town towards the airport.

It is an amazing place to visit.
It is an amazing place to visit. There are so many things to do, especially if you compare it with the homologous city in Argentina, Ushuaia. I was from Sunday to Friday, and it was not enough to do more trekkings, namely the Glaciar or around the Strait of Magallanes. I highly recommend staying in Punta Arenas for around two weeks and programme as many trips as possible before. I was not able to do the trip to Puerto Williams, because it required 30 hours on a ship. There are only ideas in my opinion.
For a long time, I haven't been in a hotel so exquisite like this one. Everything in this place makes you think you are in a dream. I loved EVERYTHING!! The staff is extremely helpful and friendly, the decoration well-thought, the breakfast is fascinating. If you are not staying here, just come for the restaurant at least - breathtaking views combined with fine dining. I couldn't be more grateful to all the staff for the fabulous stay. My favorite hotel in Chile 🇨🇱
WOW!!!! Incredible stay! This is the absolute perfect place to stay in Punta Arenas. It is close to everything and the quality of the hotel is very good. It appears new and very well taken care of. The breakfast was also fantastic and the staff could not have been more kind and caring! I stayed in a different accommodation for my first stop in Punta Arenas and stayed here on my way back. If I could have done it over again I would have stayed here the whole time!
The room, as well as the hotel lobby, were comfortable and clean. The bed especially was nice and comfortable. Water pressure in the shower was excellent and the water got hot very quickly (very important in the cool climate of Chilean Patagonia). The location was excellent, but, then again, the tourist core of Punta Arenas is not that big, so all of the hotels scattered around the downtown have excellent locations.
Demaris and Francisco were extremely helpful and kind. The beds were very comfortable and the shower and amenities are great. Francisco picked us up from the airport and offered to drive us wherever we needed to go at a very reasonable price. The location is not in the heart of the city but it gives you a chance to experience an authentic part of Punta Arenas. I would highly recommend staying here.
The Hotel Plaza's location is excellent, close to beautiful gardens, historic buildings and restaurants. I enjoyed the old world decor with plenty of varnished woodwork. The room was clean and well appointed with a modern bathroom and a very comfortable bed. The standout attraction was the excellent breakfast served by friendly staff in the beautiful, spacious and light filled dining room.
Hotel Ilaia is a gem! It is a beautiful little hotel, with lots of thoughtful and nice touches. Our room was very comfortable and very nice. The hotel has an eagles nest room with amazing 360 degree views of Punta Arenas. The hotel staff were all incredibly helpful and friendly. They went out of their way to ensure we had a great stay. I highly recommend this hotel!
the taxi driver that works for the hotel (Fabian) was wonderful! he picked us up from the airport and did our check-in since our flight arrived around midnight and the desk was closed for check-in. Great conversation, he offered himself for taxi-omg during our whole stay if we needed him. super flexible with our pick up time.
The room was very nice - bathroom was clean, and it was great to have the kitchenette and sitting area as a place to relax. The hotel is centrally located, close to the bus terminal, groceries, and restaurants. The breakfast was delicious and the host was able to arrange for a taxi to the airport. Highly recommend
The hotel is centrally located. You can walk everywhere; to museums, and many more attractions. Specially to many restaurants that serve delicious food (we loved the seafood in Punta Arenas). The lady at the front desk was more that helpful with us. She made our experience at the hotel really memorable.
A stay at a real Chilean home - private room for the two of us and a general area to be shared with two other rooms. No other guests were there though. We've spend a cosy night in the sofa - possibility to cook your own food.
Very accommodating to provide airport pickup and transport (at a fair cost).
Our stay was brief but the hospitality of the host was truly outstanding! The host made us feel very welcome and was extremely attentive even though we arrived late due to a 3hr delay on the airport runway. We will definitely be staying here in the future should we return to Punta Arenas!
The Location is bit far away from Centre, but it doesn’t matter since Punta Arenas is not a Big city. You have a Market right in front of Hostel and it opens till eleven P.M also Mirador located on hill can be Access in Ten minutes of Walk. staff is really good and he can speak English.
It was nice staying in one of the historic old "palaces" of Punta Arenas. It was comfortable and in the center of the town, making it easy to walk anywhere easily.
