The location, the stay, the staff, the experience was serene. Smooth check in and smoother check out, with very good beds for a comfy sleep along with a cabin that was very clean with a hygienically clean washroom. They even provided us with a blanket, towels, electric mattress, toaster, glasses, cups and all the cutleries to make our stay comfortable. Definitely a place to stay when in mount gambier. Highly recommended.
Enjoy a unique accommodation experience when you stay at The Old Mount Gambier Gaol.

What an amazing experience this was, to sleep in a prison cell, and be able to roam around taking in the history of an old Goal.
The hosts were extremely friendly and welcoming. Their knowledge and passion for what they have was fabulous.
For a truly unique experience, I highly recommend this place.

Such a pretty town with so many lovely houses and building. Lovely history to the place. Great vibe in the town centre with cafes and pubs and community. Lots to see and do with all the sinkholes, lakes and proximity to Coonawarra and Port MacDonell beaches

For a big town it lacked a choice of restaurants, we arrived quite late as travelling and nothing was open in town. Actually felt like a ghost town.
Good place to stop if travelling ocean road but only need one night there!
The Barns where we stayed had a good restaurant that was still open but is 20 min drive from town centre.

Beautiful historic town with famous landmarks, such as the volcanic crater lake (Blue Lake) and the Umpherston Sinkhole and sunken gardens. Very walkable town with lots of boutique shops, restaurants and coffee houses.

Much to see and do within a 100km radius of the city.
Much to see and do within a 100km radius of the city. It is a pity the the Princess Margaret Rose Cave is currently shut and there is no indication about a reopening date. The expected date (End of 2023) is now history. Direction signs should carry this information. Naracoorte Caves excellent. Get directions to "Hells Hole" and go for a short walk, Be amazed! Visitor centre is very helpful. If you are reasonably fit climb Mt Schank and walk the rim of an dormant volcano.

Despite the amazing natural attractions (especially the Blue Lake which is resplendent at this time of year), Mount Gambier seems to be revelling in past glories and much of the tourist infrastructure appears dated and run-down. Even the 'attractions' sign as you drive into town is peeling and faded...
The newly renovated room was exquisite! The tall ceilings, huge luxurious room and bathroom, super comfortable bed and other nice touches makes this the perfect stay. There was hardly any noise at all during the night, even though it was a Friday night when we there. Check in at the pub area was easy and fast (we arrived around 4pm before the dinner rush). In short, my stay at Mount Gambier Hotel was a five star experience for three/four star price. Highly recommended!
The location was great, next to a shopping centre and a level 5 to 10 minute walk to the main shopping street where there were lots of cafes, hotels and shops. The room itself was basic and has not been renovated in a million years. However it was spacious, with good separation between the bed and the bathroom. It was clean, easy to watch the tv from the bed and the shower was hot with good water pressure. It had a couch which was dismally uncomfortable.
The room was VERY clean and more like a Hotel then a Motel, it was spacious
and comfotable.
The cost was more then a normal Motel but I appreciated to a point why when I got there .
Resturant and bar, also very nice, with a lovely atmosphere, very cosy. Staff also lovely and friendly. I would stay there again and would recommend The Commodore, to anyone who goes to Mt. Gambier.
It has the real country charm and the staff were excellent always with a smile and had time for a chat. Wanted to make sure we had the best time. Steaks at the steak house were just so good. The bar and the fire places and the flowers from their beautiful garden add so much of charm to this beautiful hotel. Bed was so comfortable. We will definitely be back. Asha & Ranil
great service by staff the room was so clean and modern. Very tasteful furniture. we had room service for tea big portions nice and hot the lasagna was delicious 😋 I had it two nights in a row. we will come back again I highly recommend the motel to anyone who wants to go to Mount Gambier
Nothing it was the most disgusting hotel I have yet to stay in
The room was filthy, the carpets disgusting made my feet black. Housekeeping what housekeeping our room had a dirty flannel still left in shower, poo on toilet lid, hair in shower soap holder along with soap scum.
The Lakes Resort is a well maintained older motel that I have returned to each time I have been in Mount Gambier.
Rooms are clean and well presented and the location is quiet at night.
We will be happy to return to "The Lakes" when we next visit Mount Gambier.
Check in had a lobby like a hotel.
Rooms were well presented, modern, clean, and spacious
Staff polite and helpful
Pool was large and easily accessible
Great parking
Restaurant on site (we didn't use it)
Short drive to all local sites and amenities.
I loved the property layout, the restaurant and the garden made having breakfast in our room so enjoyable! We upgraded our room to king deluxe so we can enjoy the spa! It was a great experience and I've already recommended the hotel to my friends!
The motel is a little tired but our room was very clean, the beds were comfortable and we had all we needed. The water pressure was good and we had plenty of hot water. Location was good and plenty of parking.
1. This motel has best location. All tourist spots are nearby.
2. You can Park your car in front of your room and take your luggage easily.
3. Found bed, tables, cupboards, cutlery and other stuff good.
We stayed two nights and it was a comfortable place to be. Parking was easy and right by the door. Pretty quiet too, even though the motel is right on a main road. Our unit was at the rear.
Spacious room in executive suite. Bed is better than some other hotels I have been. Toilet has locks which is must for a family with kids. Our kids loved the balcony.
The room was huge, a lovely big old country hotel and we were very comfortable. Breakfast was adequate and they catered for my gluten free request. Thank you.
