Located in San Miguel de Allende and with Church of St. Michael the Archangel reachable within 600 metres, Las Terrazas provides a garden, non-smoking rooms, free WiFi and a terrace. The owner is a "retired" Oregonian who has turned a dream of a house on the most beautiful hill of San Miguel de Allende into a paradise hotel. The beauty of the place alone is worth the stay. INternet was superb, but because I work with it, he was kind to provide me with a second service just in case this one went down (it did not!). Breakfast was fabulous, the room had absolutely everything one needs including a private chimney. The walk to town is amazing (a few blocks) and as it is on a hill, it provides a good exercise (I am 72!). The owner and his wife, of course, speaks perfect English and Americans will feel right at home. Even the TV was set up with the US channels. Pretty amazing!

Set in a typical rustic-style building at the top of an uphill street, and boasting a garden, Casa Azul is situated in Guanajuato, 400 metres from La Paz Square. I love that this hotel is in a neighborhood just uphill from Plaza Baratillo. Paulina is a lovely person and a fabulous hostess. Casa Azul is a rambling old house with loads of character, and lots of stairs. I'd begin each day on the roof terrace with coffee, listening to the roosters and church bells, and enjoying the incredible views over the city!

Casa Rofo is set in Guanajuato, 700 metres from La Paz Square, 1.3 km from Alhondiga de Granaditas Museum, as well as 600 metres from Juarez Theater. I loved everything about Casa Rofo! The view from the terrace is spectacular, Guanajuato is uniquely beautiful. Omar and Jacquie are so kind, warm, and welcoming., truly wonderful hosts. The room was spotlessly clean, very peaceful, relaxing and comfortable, and it’s such a treat to have a fridge. I found the walk down to the Centro Histórico very quick and charming, definitely harder coming back up in the heat but worth it to sit on the terrace and watch the magical sunset, and the city lights come on. I found GTO very easy to navigate as a solo traveller, I took the v comfortable ETN bus from GDL, got an Uber from the bus station for just over 100 pesos, and a taxi back for 100 pesos. I felt very safe walking around alone, and there are lots of great restaurants. I loved Omar’s breakfasts, especially the huaraches! I wish I’d stayed longer, I would definitely stay at Casa Rofo again if I ever come back to GTO!
