Because there wasn’t a lift, we were accommodated with a large family room on the ground floor which was great. We appreciated the gesture.

Perfectly located in the center of Ghent, the 1898 The Post was a great place to stay and see the city and its surroundings. Located near tram lines that can take you around the city and to the train station (Gent-Sint-Pieters) the hotel is within blocks of several of key sights, so you are able to walk and experience historic Ghent right outside your door. The setup of our room utilized the unique building, giving the maximum amount of space even in our smaller room (letter) which was decorated in a way that is photo shoot worthy and tied back to the building's history. Additionally, the staff is amazing and helped us extend our stay as we were able to secure a visit to the Huyghe Brewery (Delirium Tremens) which is only a short train ride away from Ghent.

Located in the Flemish region of Belgium, the beautiful medieval city of Ghent is a city of history and romance. It's full of hidden historical, cultural and culinary gems that you can easily discover.
The Gravensteen or "Castle of the Count" is a deceptively enchanting sight dating back to the Middle Ages. Constructed by Philip of Alsace, the count of Flanders, it's partially surrounded by a moat and beautifully restored, and hosts an interesting museum about the history of prison life.
Part of the UNESCO World Heritage list, the Belfry of Ghent is a medieval tower overlooking the Old Town centre. Saint Bavo Cathedral and Saint Nicholas' Church are the city's other two towers, with St. Nicholas' Church being one of the oldest landmarks in Ghent.
Enjoy a relaxing walk in the picturesque medieval streets and stop at one of the charming traditional restaurants for Belgium beer and a classic Flemish meat stew with French fries. Local delicacies include the popular Belgium chocolate and the purple jelly-filled candies called the "noses".
Antwerp International Airport is 32 miles away, while Brussels Airport is 34 miles. Just book your hotel, guest house, apartment, or B&B through Booking.com and discover everything this stunning city has to offer.

The Industrial Museum (MIAT) has impressive and some unique objects, as befits the first Manchester of the continent. Vooruit for workers' social solidarity and a bar. Also thought-provoking is the Dr Josef Guislain museum in a still-used asylum (take tram #2).
Note that some tram routes, e.g, #4 to Nord Dokk, no longer operate.

A historic university city.
A historic university city. Preserves its strong Flemish identity.
Has a vibrant city centre and has a 'gothic feel' to it - but, not as strong as Bruges or to Brussels.
Once the main train station has completed its rebuild, it will enhance the city as a more inviting place.
We had dinner in the student sector and found it expensive. It's easy to get around Ghent by public transport. Trams need to be upgraded with easier payment systems and electronic information boards. Compared to Netherlands, Belgium's Tourist Information-points or Centres are not that easily accessible.
I would avoid staying near the main train station during its current building works due to noise and dust. The latter if you're allergic to dust.

Augmented Reality at St Bavo's Caythedral was exceptional.
Augmented Reality at St Bavo's Caythedral was exceptional. Almost everything in the city is walkable from the centre. Cars, trams, bikes and pedestrians share streets which means being careful when you walk. Altogether this was a visit to remember which will bring a smile to my face. Heartily recommended. With over 5000 students at the university the positive atmosphere was almost tangible. And the quality of life looked very good with excellent restaurants at reasonable prices and chic shops with good design on offer.

A beautiful, lively city with many easily accessible sights, concentrated in the centre. Easy communications by train or bus to/from other towns and good public transport within the city. Plenty of shops, restaurants, cafés, and a large pedestrian area. One can easily spend a few hours in one of the many museums on a rainy day.

Ghent seems to be something of a poor relation to the more...
Ghent seems to be something of a poor relation to the more famous Bruges. However, I found Ghent to be a thoroughly enjoyable place to visit and certainly lest touristy than Bruges. It's a very walkable city (to be fair, so is Bruges, but Ghent is more compact) which I really enjoy and value.
The local tourist authorities in Ghent have done a superb job with their excellent Visitors' Guide Book (free and printed in colour in the main European languages as well as English) which has a map showing the location of all the main points of interest, together with a succinct explanation of each. I found noting comparable in either Brussels or Bruges.
On my last morning before leaving for Bruges, I visited the very modern city library which was (for me) an enjoyable surprise, particularly after all the much more traditional historical sites. Try not to miss it and try to find time to step inside for a while!

It can get a bit full of walking tours and people in general - don't go at peak tourist times! Away from the centre there are lovely little bars and places to look at. It's crammed with beautiful art nouveau buildings. It prides itself on its artistic and musical connections - lots of students, and you could hear music practice going on in many places. There are local breweries with many delicious beers.
From first contact with Herbert, we knew we are about to have a wonderful time in his property. And we weren’t wrong! Lovely and polite owners who did awesome job with decorating the apartment. There is really nothing that you will miss. Kitchen and bathroom fully equipped, towels and bedding at disposal, everything very clean and cosy. Rooftop terrace is a hidden gem! Connection to city center is easy, either with bus, or Uber.
We can definitely recommend this place, and we are sure we will come stay here again next time we visit Belgium.
This is hands down my favourite place in Belgium. We visited 4 different cities, but Alphabed and Gent were diffrent and, in my opinion, the best! The street is quiet but just 5-7 minutes walking to the city center and all the best places in the city. We will def. come back!
The staff was communicative, the place was spacious and clean, the bed was comfy and the kitchen (common area) had great design and amenities. The entire place was packed with natural flowers too, a very nice detail.
This place made our visit to belgium so special! The caravan was so clean, cozy and warm. The owner welcomed us with the biggest smile and was always there whenever we needed to ask about something. The location is amazing as it is not only close to Gent, but to many other great little villages too, surrounded by beautiful open fields and great views. All of this with a very affordable and fair price. Highly recommended!
Very friendly host and nice, spacious rooms. Very calm, we slept great there. The breakfast was very nice: we received a breakfast basket every day with items we had chosen (e.g. croissant).
The place is well located for those keen on both exploring Belgium and Ghent. It's a ten minute walk from the city center and about the same to make it to the station.
Several options nearby as well to eat.
Fran and Maarten were wonderful hosts! As soon as we walked in, we felt welcomed by Fran. The room was spacious and clean, bathrooms were modern and excellent condition. Maarten is an amazing chef and went above and beyond for us while we were there. Would recommend trying out their restaurant while you are there. We will go back to their bed and breakfast if we ever go back to ghent belgium.
The location of the hotel was fantastic, being in the centre of Ghent. The interior of the public area - bar/cafe, reception was of a beautiful and impressive design. I liked the fact that the old facade of the building facing the canal had been preserved. as part of the hotel.
We had room 429 which was comfortable, spacious, and quiet. Breakfast was excellent with a wide choice on offer.
- Use of the kitchen till 22:00
- A hangout place (with table football/ board games) and a bar
- Lots of storing space in the caravan
- Lots of toilets/ bathrooms
- Friendly staff and easy check in/out
- Breakfast is ok but don't expect too much
- Cheapest option in Ghent if you still want some privacy
- Lots of buses and trams close by (5-7 minutes walking distance)
Excellent staff extremely helpful at check in. Pointing us i right direction with tips & advice on local street map for our very short stay in Ghent. the parking is first come first served but we were lucky & got an empty spot & therefore this is a big plus! a triple room that was clean comfortable at a great price including parking, this place is a winner
We arrived a little late at night and the owner of the hotel welcomed us with a really great attitude! He explained to us with a very attention to the details the places we could visit.
The place is small, very comfy and cozy. The bathroom is very clean. Breakfast is cheap and you have a good variety of food
The view is phenomenal in the most amazing part of Ghent. The room is lovely and well stocked with free wine and drinks. The breakfast was personalized and gorgeous with incredible fresh croissants and breads and flowers. It is a tiny little hotel added on by a friendly restauranteur. Too notch place!
The rooms were very pleasant and comfy, and the hosts super friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed the old house and being in an authentic Ghent apartment rather than a hotel. It’s very simple and pretty, and has a little kitchenette and everything you need for an affordable stay in Ghent.
We love our experience in the hotel. It is excellent located with all the accessible with walking distance. The staff was very friendly and professional. We will definitely go back the next time we are in Ghent. We will recommend it to friends too. It’s definitely a great place to stay.
Close to the main attractions of Ghent and Albert Hejin supermarket.
Spacious apartment with fully equipped kitchen, comfortable beds and cozy living room.
There are 2 toilets.
Very close to public parking.
The host allowed us to leave the luggage until 12PM.
Nice friendly and helpful staff. Room was comfortable and clean. Location is approx 10 minutes walk into centre of Ghent. The monstary surroundings are unusual (but pleasant!) - the hotel room is completely modern though so don't be put off by that.
It was one of my best hostel experience so far. Met some amazing people there and I love the creative and sustainable ideas they have implemented there. Definitely will visit again if I come back to Belgium.
I was in Ghent looking for traditional Belgian fries. The hotel had a prepared list of nice frieteries. I went to the one recommended by the reception on Tuesday afternoon. Her choice was great!
Lovely room, surprisingly large for Belgium in a nice location away from the main tourist area, which were within an easy walk. Close to some great cafes for breakfast. A really nice stay.
