Burnie is a great place for shopping, restaurants and has lovely water views. A great stop off point if you are planning on exploring the Tarkine and the far North West Coast. A stop over in Smithton is Ideal to explore the Tarkine.

Great beaches plus good walks along beaches. A walking track is currently being put down over old railway line and extends along beach area. Great down town area with beach side bars and restaurants.
Burnie is an ideal base to explore Stanley and other seaside areas. Good base to go to Dove Lake and other wilderness areas. Dove Lake is 112km away

Great location for day trips along the Bass Highway, to Cradle Mountain and Leven Canyon. It was difficult to find street maps of Burnie and tourist attractions in Burnie, had to google a lot. Good shopping centre.

I went to Burnie for work.
I went to Burnie for work. That said, it offers reasonable facilities as a setting-off point for tourism destinations like Cradle Mountain and Stanley. The town itself is not really a tourist destination but is reasonably attractive to be in for other purposes. There are a few good places to eat, good supermarkets, and basic services offices including Service Tasmania and RACT.
The other thing to know about Burnie is that it is seriously hilly. This offers opportunities for exercise up and down the tracks and roads, and for spectacular views from some locations.
Burnie Airport is actually formally called Burnie-Wynyard Airport and is actually at Wynyard, an easy 20 min drive away. They have basic facilities at the airport including hire-car desks. The alternative airport is Devonport, which is a bit bigger and has a "regional" Qantas lounge, but it is 48km from Burnie, on a road that is double lane most of the way.

Accommodation was perfect, not only was it across the road from the beach, they had a swimming pool at our accommodation.
There is cinema in Burnie a museum and an art museum and a great promenade for beach front walking all of which we did.
It was perfect to take my teenage grand children to. The grandies loved Dave's noodlebox. However they had every popular teen food outlet.
We had the best of both the beach and the mountains.
The team had provided plenty of directions on checking-in, directions, processes but in the midst of all our travelling we failed to follow much of them. Even so, the hotel manager was gracious enough to check us in very late in the evening. Communication and service from the IKON team surpassed all of our expectations. But the rooms were even better. We booked two rooms and they were incredibly spacious, so well-thought-out and luxe. Everything was clean and tidy and we lacked nothing.
great location, it's a nice hotel to get into Burnie for a weekend look around. The rooms are old, but the bed is very comfortable. Staff were great, and the food was tasty and plentiful. It's a value for money hotel, and it delivered exactly that. We used the room as a crash pad to store our gear, and went out to explore the area. The room was clean and tidy, it's just an old hotel, and it's showing it's age.
The accommodation was spacious, clean and comfortable. The hosts were welcoming, friendly, informative, and helpful. They've got a cork board with flyers for local attractions and food places, as well as books on Tasmania. Also lots of little decor touches that are nice. The breakfast choices were good. A short walk down the street sees you at Burnie Park, which is lovely.
The phots are misleading. The property is more than 500mtrs from the water and the view is obstructed by buildings. The property itself is located literally 4mtrs from a 6 lane main Rd and the traffic noise was so bad we had to keep the TV on. We got no sleep. Should not be called "by the Bay"...totally misleading and the price should reflect the ACTUAL location.
Property was clean and modern. Good sized bedrooms and bathroom. Excellent washing facilities which is a huge bonus with a family. A lovely view from the lounge room windows and a quick walk to the centre of town for meals and shopping. Coles supermarket within easy walking distance and right next to Burnie Park. All facilities if you wanted to cook at home.
What a hidden gem of a property! A 120 year old fully renovated homestead converted into beautiful hotel rooms overlooking the town and port of Burnie.
The host Mike was fantastic and his hospitality second to none with providing a complimentary breakfast and a good chat :)
I would definitely recommend the Oakleigh Guest House over a standard motel…
Continental Breakfast was provided - delicious. A little light on for 4 adults for 4 nights with Bread and Milk but otherwise all good. Fabulous Hollywood House - great concept. Beds very comfortable and warm. Always plenty of Hot Water. Fabulous Location to use as a base for seeing all of North Tasmania.
Burnie was a great central location for the MTBing and walking we wanted to do and this hotel was well situated within Burnie. The staff were friendly and helpful and the room spacious with an excellent bed. It was close to restaurants and cafes and the bistro in the hotel was also fine.
Excellent location - directly opposite the beach and in the CBD. Staff were excellent - polite and willing to assist. The on site restaurant "Raindrops" was great in terms of both quality and value. Overall a great location with a genuine commitment to quality service.
Very charming house with helpful, intelligent hosts. Close to the beach - we were able to walk down in the evening to see the penguins. We only had one night - next time I’ll stay more- would be a lovely place to use as a base to explore Northern Tasmania.
Very friendly guy at the Reception, immediately brought a hairdryer when the one in our room was missing. The place is the usual for a motel and caravan park, a little bit out of town, but with your own transport it is not an issue. Room is clean and good.
Cabins are cozy, and well laid out, nice and quiet, kids loved it
Pool is clean, a touch cold, but we stayed on a very cold weekend, close to beach.
Was pet friendly and has plenty of space
Good value for money
Amazing hospitality! Lovely friendly staff. Super location for exploring Burnie. The room was very comfortable, very clean, excellent charm and modern features. Will definitely stay again!
Loved the decor; luxury bathroom; ease of access for elderly mum with a walker; short walk to beach and restaurants.
Yummy welcome chocolate and suggestions for restaurants.
