Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

We were not made aware that the restaurant only operates until 8pm, so when we arrived at 8pm - it was closed. Shower water only luke warm.
Even though they did not have our booking on their system, they still managed to sort us out and gave us clean room.

Room and bedding were over saturated with some sort of freshener. For the first hour or so we could barely breathe.
Rump steak at the restaurant was fantastic. As was the home-made pepper sauce. Hosts were great.

The chalet was comfortable and clean. Tony and wife were very friendly and helpful. Their food was delicious. Parking was next to the chalet with safe surrounded fences. Highly recommended to stay there.

For a traveling stop over, it's a bit too close to the main road with truck noise that won't give much rest

The bad service received from Victoria. We struggled to get into the lodge when we arrived and their telephone line on the front gate was not working.

The fact that there is no receptionist to cater for our needs like ice, wood etc. only certain times.We chose this venue because we had great times here before but now I will never recommend this place.The contact number on booking.com is never working. We needed wood on Sunday and no one answered the phones. My toilet flush handle was broken. Did not have a kettle in my room. The clock in time changed from 2 to 3 it's bad and U have to pay R150 extra if U want to book in earlier, we were the only guests for the day...
The swimming pool area. The pool table was entertaining for the kids. The rooms was clean.

I/we liked the way we were welcomed by Victoria and Tony the owners of the lodge. We appreciate the warmth and friendliness they've given us. We highly recommend Vioolsdrift Lodge to anyone who's traveling in that direction.

Excellent hospitality and amazing food. I made a fault with my booking but they were accommodating and catered for our whole group. Will definitely stay there when traveling to and from Namibia.

There was an awful smell in the room when we walked in - rotten drain smell. The cleaning staff must have been aware because they sprayed the room with air freshener just before we arrived and that was horribly overwhelming. There was no hot water at the kitchen basin or the bathroom so we couldn't shower as it was freezing cold. The dishes in the kitchen were greasy and half clean. I wanted to wash it but couldn't get the grease off with cold water. There were no wine glasses. Just small cooldrink/water glasses. I stayed here several times before and the facilities used to be impeccable with everything you needed. It is clearly not the case anymore. I will not stay here again unfortunately which is a real pity.
The bed was very comfortable.

We had a lovely evening. Clean, comfortable accommodation and very affordable. "Lekkerste" Pizza ever. To our very friendly host couple, Tony and Victoria...thank you for your exceptional hospitality. Will definitely book again in future.

After driving 7hours to get to the lodge. We were welcomed with a close gate, no answer to our phone calls and messages, no answer on the intercom at the gate. No-one informed us that from a certain time there will be no one on duty or even reached out to us to ask how far along we were before everyone left to make alternative arrangements for check in. Luckily Booking.com did refund us for this inconvenience, as we had to cross the border and continue on driving through the night to our next destination. We won't recommend this lodge.

Personal touch of both owners/ host was so heart felt
Breakfast was excellent and the host very good. Arriving the evening we could sit around in reception area and get drinks from the bar area and just relax. Felt at home.
