How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewno breakfast. good location
The host was VERY helpfull and over friendly after we had an serious accident in front of her property's gate, but she was VERY drunk and tried to calm us with wine and mampoer... We were booked into a TENT (IN MID WINTER) that we didn't ask for and my mother in law (86) and her crippled brother(82) were expected to sleep on stretchers. In the end she quickly fitted them into a VERY filthy room with a very THIN mattress and summer duvet. It was VERY COLD and we had to go to an OUTSIDE toilet and kitchen with NO HOT WATER to shower with in a VERY filthy bathroom. The hand towel was frayed and not clean. I realey don't understand how you can book your guests into a place like this...It was the most AWFULL place to stay ever

Verified reviewNot much at all
We were disappointed with our experience at this guesthouse. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the hostess, who was clearly intoxicated and using inappropriate foul language. This was not only unprofessional but also made us feel extremely uncomfortable. First impressions matter, and this one unfortunately set a negative tone for our stay.
No one was intoxicated and I take offence at this comment. Nor was any foul language used.

Verified reviewNo breakfast.
Kitchen, no salt, pepper, coffee or tea. Crockery chipped. The bathroom, shower floor, painted, was peeling. The water outlet poor or blocked. Basin taps loose. I understand rustic, but for this price and location I think they can do much better. A huge army of mosquitoes .The ac worked perfect. Our son came from the United States for a visit , we wanted to be together and I made a mistake to book a family room. The host offered another location on the premises, but we were not interested.
To reply which I really have not wanted to do but need to set the record straight. You booked the Glamping Tent which is awesome. You also booked self catering. We do not offer breakfast which is clearly stated on booking.com. I am not a hotel, I am a guest farm, with self catering cottages. I really hope you could get this type of accommodation anywhere else in South Africa at the price you paid. I offered you a luxury alterative, not in a tent ,you chose to turn it down. I asked when you departed if there where any problems you said no, we had a wonderful time.

Verified reviewDidnt end up staying but it could have been very pleasant in the tented accommodation. Unfortunately the onsite dogs are very much in your personal space.
This place is suited to guests that want to interact with other guests and all the dogs on site.

Verified reviewJo the host was most welcoming as were the dogs. It fitted our needs for the three days we were there. The air conditioning.
It was the hottest days of the year in Tulbagh and the air conditioning, when it worked, was wonderful. For some reason it would shut down and no amount of fiddling with the remote would revive it. It would then spring in to life in the middle of the night which was great.

Verified reviewThe location is very scenic and very close to town. The tent is well equipped. I can see the potential for those without dogs or small kids to have a relaxing time.
There's not enough privacy from the host and her 5 dogs. It wasn't mentioned that there would be dogs free roaming and unwatched. Straight away we were out on the back foot because of this, because our dog is half blind and not comfortable around so many other dogs. The dogs are very curious and kept 'invading' the area we occupied. We were unable to relax and the dogs did not get on. I feel this was extremely unfair for a location advertising privacy. Secondly, the tent was not clean from large (to us) dead spiders, and webs, and the couch smelled. The host told us a story about a much larger tame spider that likes to inhabit the tent. This lead to a horrible feeling for my family, not feeling safe, not knowing if there were more spiders or where the next sighting would be. Lastly, the host and her friend sat next to the pool the entire day drinking and talking. This did not make the pool area feel very inviting. Towards the end of the first evening it became clear that the experience would not get better. It would not be a relaxing stay. My wife and daughter were upset and wanted to leave. I felt the same. We paid for 3 nights, but that would be 3 too many. We packed our bags and left.
So the property is pet friendly. Yes I have dogs, its a farm. You brought a blind dog to the property. Seriously its a farm, there will be spiders. I apologize if its wasn't for you.
