How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

What a warm welcome we had from the owner Johannes, safe parking, room has everything in that you need and very clean. Owner was very helpful with recommending places to lunch etc. Breakfast was one for the books, freshly made and absolutely delicious, especially the scrambled eggs. Will definitely book again if we go down to Gansbaai. Wonderful stay we had, thank you Johannes, much appreciated.

The B&B is very comfortable. You get everything you need. The breakfast was delicious as if the chef cooked. The owner is such a nice gentleman who is pleasant to talk and he really cares about making sure everything is perfect. This place has a soul. Thank you very much.

We did not have the breakfast offered as we were meeting friends for breakfast. Everything was very comfortable and Johannes was very friendly and helpful. We really appreciated the snack pack he gave us when we left.

We stayed here one night in mid November 2024, and slept well in a queen sized double bed. A big plus was that we never saw or heard a single mosquito — a surprising first for our Garden Route holiday and a welcome relief. Whether this is typical for Gansbaai, the time of year, or just a fluke, we never found out. This long established B&B is comfortable both in the bedrooms and the lounge, which has its own TV and a private bar. A great place to relax of an evening with travel companions and the host. Our host, Johannes Bruyns (pronounced 'brains') was of a similar post-retirement age to us. We found him to be congenial, with a 'teasing' sense of humour, a real character, who regaled us over breakfast with tales from his long career of running the B&B. Yet nothing was too much trouble for him ... not even our non standard allergies. To marks for this considerate host.

The room was a bit dark.
The room is basic but provides everything you need. It even comes with a fridge and kettle. The room is rather dark but everything feels clean and it's a good place to say for a few nights. The location is good, a safe area in walking distance from the shore to watch the whales. Johannes the owner is very friendly and helpful, providing valuable advice and making me feel totally at home and even made my room after the first night.

Absolutely nothing!!
I enjoyed the friendlyness of Johan, the host, the space and the bed was excellent. I would be amiss not to mention the excellent breakfast we were treated to!!

everything about the property and the host is excellent and no complaints.
everything about the property I liked and specifically Mr. Johannes hospitality.. He took good care of us and guided us perfectly for our further trip. If it was not him, we would have not made it up to our next destination on time. Such a nice accomodation he got and took personal care.
