We had a truly wonderful stay at the Two Oceans Artist’s Home. The accommodation was clean, beautifully presented, and full of unique character that made it feel both special and welcoming. Waking up to the breathtaking view each morning was an absolute highlight — it’s something we won’t forget. Brigitta was warm, thoughtful, and always ready to help if we needed anything, which made us feel really well looked after. It’s a place that stayed with us, and we’re already looking forward to returning.

I loved the pool, and the homey comforting feel.

There was no soap in the house, the ants were a big issue which isn't their fault.

    Property response:

Hi Tristan, thank you for your great review. Soap was supplied in a small bottle on your bed with the towels. We do constant battle with the ants as we try not to use poisons. It is important to put all foodstuffs away in the refrigerator as they are attracted to food and water left lying out. This is Africa in high summer! We have to share it with lots of wild animals!!!

Beautiful place to stay. Very clean. View was amazing. My family and I really enjoyed our stay there.

    Property response:

Thank you Carmel! I’m really glad you enjoyed your stay. Please note this is a self catering and self service unit with an option to employ staff if you so wish. The names and numbers of the staff is in the manual and you would need to follow the instructions there in to employ them. Otherwise it is only serviced before you arrive and after you leave. Kindest regards Brigitta

The position and views are exceptional, especially of the mountains and bay. We were delighted to sit on the balcony, watching whales breaching. And it was just a short walk down to the beach. Brigitta was very accommodating, and the artwork made for a lovely space.

We were a bit surprised to find neighbours below, although they were friendly and unimposing.

    The view

This property is unsuitable for those who cannot climb steep steps, stone and wooden, carrying heavy luggage. There was an infestation of ants and maggots on the kitchen floor on our last day. The shower had a cracked floor and a rusty door that was tricky to close. The water drained very slowly, which almost caused an overflow. An unsightly, almost dead plant in the living room was an eyesore. There was no washing up liquid or sponges and a note requesting tenants to buy their own! A couple of the bedside lamps didn’t work, with unsuitable plugs. The keys to the kitchen door leading to the swimming pool were put in a strange place and only found by accident on our last day. A very untidy mess outside around the pool filter area.

    Property response:

Dear Lesley, Thank you for your comments. Please note that the Hero photos on the advertisement clearly show that the house clings high up to the side of a mountain with many steps ( obviously) needed to access the front door. This is an important consideration when you are over 70 years old and I would encourage you to take note of the photos, when you make your decisions. The property is not serviced on a daily basis, but before guests arrive and after they leave. In Africa, in 32 degrees Celsius heat, you have to get rid of the rubbish properly to not attract ants and flies, (thus maggots ). Indeed, as you mention, these appeared after YOU had been in residence for 5 days. I apologise that the plant had not been watered and thus affected the Feng Shui. I have spoken to the service company and asked them to move plants that are not coping with this extreme heat outside and up the watering. The key to the back door is always placed on the key rack at the back door. It is a pity you did not notice it until your last day, only to go out and see that the howling south easterly wind had played havoc with the leaves around the pool. We have indeed had a problem with the draining of the shower. Plumbers and drain doctors have been onto the site and cleared roots out if the pipes and are battling to create a situation where it drains quickly but the work is ongoing to try to make sure it drains at the correct speed. The shower door needs to be lightly lifted to ensure it closed properly. This is the mechanism. Getting a new frame and tray is next in the maintenance list. My property has a 3 star rating and this is what you pay for. Perhaps you need to look at staying at 5 or 7 star serviced accommodation on level ground as it seems you were not a good fit in my property, which many guests have thoroughly enjoyed staying in. Kindest regards Brigitta

We loved Two Oceans Artist's Home. It is everything we wanted, and then some. The view is simply stunning. The host was hospitality personified, and helped with every issue that we had. She even bought a UPS so that we could use the WiFi during load shedding. I was pleased to find that, unlike most vacation properties, there is a full-size fridge. The dishwasher and washing machine are easy to use, and work well. We were delighted and charmed by the two cats, who were both very friendly. The mattresses on both beds are in a good condition. There are two bathrooms in good working order. I was amused to see that a previous reviewer complained about the poorly maintained garden. Far from this, the garden is full of highly prized, indigenous fynbos, very similar to the the hill behind the house. This type of vegetation is much valued by local people and conservationists alike. The balcony is certainly not very dangerous and we made extensive use of it. It is the perfect spot from which to watch sunrises and sunsets. Another reviewer complained about the braai (Barbecue). It is a simple mini barrel braai and works perfectly.

The only problem we experienced was the ants. But all that needs to be done to keep them under control are the methods known to most people who have lived in a warm climate. Never leave food or crumbs where they can attract ants. Keep all kitchen surfaces clean.

    Property response:

Dear Ros and Simon, thank you for this wonderful review! Looking forward to welcoming you back in my home.

The apartment is perfectly situated with a beautiful view over Fishhoek and Falsebay.

The garden is not very well maintained, the pool is dirty and there are no chairs or sun loungers at the pool. The balcony is very dangerous, cause the balustrade is rotten in the corners and not enough protection.

    Property response:

Dear Cees and Inge, Thank you for your feedback. Thank you also for mentioning in your comments in my comment book, to quote: “Thank you for opening your home to guests. We had a pleasant time staying in your house. Your paintings are beautiful. The view is amazing and the bed and shower are very comfortable.” It is my home and maintenance is an ongoing project. I will further mention what I replied to you in our what’s app chat: “Thank you in advance for doing a review. Quite a few people don’t bother to do it so it is much appreciated. Thank you for the recommendations as well. The balustrade was refurbished from the ground level to in line with the front sliding doors, then I had guests come in, (that was you and Inge!), so the the second phase of refurbishing had to wait. It is happening now. The deck and balustrade are safe and I have never had a problem with either. I completely agree about pool loungers. Great idea! Pool and garden does get maintened while there aren’t guests as many guests do not want to deal with staff/ contractors and the pool kreepy should have been coming on and off on a timer switch. Perhaps load shedding has played havoc with that as well. I have reset it. I will enlist the gardening services to do a thorough “once over’ of the garden for guests’ viewing pleasure. 😃 Thank you for all the good suggestions.
