How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

We absolutely loved the property and our stay.
The Village Cottage is beautiful, stylish and superbly equipped. The location was perfect. The owner/host couldn’t have been more helpful.

Nothing it was excellent
The property was outstanding. Beautiful decor and very well appointed. Location to restaurants, shops and wine tram was perfect as all were so close and within walking distance. Love it and would highly recommend.

Everything was perfect!
The Village Cottage is a beautifully appointed home located a very short walk from the shops and restaurants of charming Franschhoek. Claire is a FANTASTIC host! She met us upon arrival and made us feel so welcome.

The only part of the cottage that I didn't like was the outside setee & seating area which was too low to sit at . That is the only criticism I have the outside furniture could be a bit higher to sit at
All of it was very good taste in all the furnishings the ensuite was exceptional ' all the appliances worked well . The cottage was clean & tidy , and Clare was the best host .

Nothing really, perfect. Even your own garage.
An amazing place with lots of great amenities, like washing machine, dishwasher and coffeemaker. It was extremely comfortable and clean. The location is superb and Claire is most welcoming and helping. We would definitely recommend the village cottage.

Nothing - it was all great
Beautifully styled 2 bedroom house in a very quiet yet central location less than a 2 min walk to the Main Street. The bedrooms are spacious both with en suite, nice outdoor space and comfortable living space. Claire was fantastic and made our arrival and check in really smooth and straightforward. We loved our stay and can’t wait to return.

This was fantastic in every way. You enter the property and the kitchen living and a toilet are located on the ground floor. It was decorated beautifully, smelled clean and fresh and the kitchen appliances were quality. Everything that was provided was top notch. Upstairs there are two bedrooms with ensuite toilets, both of them beautiful and the beds were plush. This was by far the best place we stayed at on our trip. Very well located so you could walk to the shops.

Claire's lovely place is centrally and conveniently located, and was an ideal and comfortable hub to visit Franschhoek and the surrounding areas from. The home had all the necessary amenities and more. Claire was a great host: friendly, attentive and responsive. If you are thinking of staying in the area, look no further than the Village Cottage.

The garage is a bit tight for a larger car but there is alternative parking if required
Excellent communication prior to our arrival. The property is well appointed and spotlessly clean. It is beautifully decorated and everything we required was provided. We will definitely visit again.

I’m so sad we only stayed 2 nights and didn’t get to try out the amazing bathtub
We loved everything about The Village Cottage, couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful luxury space. Right in the center of town. So many fabulous restaurants right on the doorstep. Claire was so helpful and the check in instructions were the most informative I’ve ever received
