Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

South AfricaThe amount I had to pay for international payment to Booking.com. Nothing to do with Accommodation. Tip. Advertise under Lekkeslaap to help South Africans.
The fireplace in the living room. Gas heater in bedroom. Spacious. Dam in front of accommodation with koi. Everything.

South AfricaThe room has 3 beds, but I would recommend for couples only or couples with very small children.
Olive Thrush Cottage is on the edge of town which makes it very quiet en relaxed with a farm-like feel. The gas heater and fireplace came in handy on the cold winter evenings of our stay.

United StatesThis was my third stay in Prince Albert and by far the best. The stylish cottage is several blocks to the East off the town's main drag, Church Street, so is very quiet and secluded. The restaurants, shops and hotels are within walking distance, and the Spar/Tops is a 3-4 minute drive away. The very handsome, well-appointed accomodation has tall ceilings, both an indoor and out door shower, two enclosed courtyards, one with a hammock, and is part of a larger spacious, enclosed, tree-shaded complex, complete with a small pond and rowboat. An electric gate provides security for car and person. Olive Thrush Cottage is my go-to place in Prince Albert now. Be sure to try lunch at O for Olive Farm!

The place is lovely inside. Clean and neat. Nice and private. Everything you need. Really loved the Nespresso coffee machine, the coffee pods and the fresh rusks provided (tasted really great). Wish we could have stayed longer. Thank you Riaan for accomodating us when we were later than planned for our check in.

South AfricaWe were staying for 4 nights and we don’t always like eating out so we had brought quite a bit of food with us. Unfortunately the fridge was just too small. We battled to keep the fresh things cool and ice packs frozen and no space for ice which we desperately needed in the terrible heat. A few more shelves for our own food would have been nice.
The cottage had everything we needed, scrumptious rusks, milk and lots of tea and coffee, even an espresso machine with capsules, wood and charcoal plus firefighters, lovely fresh roses in vases, mosquito net over an enormous bed, fan, air conditioner also an outdoor private shower. Lovely indoor shower with lots of towels etc. The cooking utensils were good quality and good washing up soap. Thanks for the insect spray, we didn’t enjoy the chirping of crickets and for the fly swatter. The setting of the cottage is very good, near the centre but not on the main road. The general garden and private garden really peaceful and relaxing. There was also safe, shady parking for the car. I enjoyed the evening display by the bats. There was lots of information on Prince Albert and maps to find our way around. Thank you

Location was perfect in that we felt as though we were in the country, with bird calls and the distant church clock chiming, but without the noise of people or traffic. The furnishings and deco was tasteful with comfortable seating in an outside courtyard and in several spots inside.

From our arrival and greeting by both Ethan and Riaan we were made to feel welcomed and at home. All questions / concerns were dealt with professionally, and you always had a sense that any issue or concern that you might have had would be dealt with promptly. The communication and hosting were excellent, and the place itself was top class. Will definitely book there is future.

South AfricaOnly one access key, despite two adults being here - i guess I didnt ask for another, which may have helped though. Self catering but no oven - just a hot plate but as it rained our cooking options a bit limited.

The excellence of everything, and more of it. The art, the comfy bedding, the plush towels. There is no TV, so you can take in the awesomeness of relaxation.
