Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

South AfricaThey should let you know beforehand that you need to purchase your own wood for the hot tub and not a few hours before check-in. That way, you can be prepared and bring wood with you.
Everything was nice and peaceful.

South AfricaThe cottage itself is needing a bit of TLC. There was a quite a lot of damp very visible on the walls and ceiling.
Lovely little cottage on the farm. Beautiful place to walk with the kids and explore. Hot tub under the stars was amazing.

UkraineOverall I loved our stay and enjoyed it. Just few things that could make the stay a bit more enjoyable is convenience. There were now two prong plug points, there also wasn’t any amenities like shower gel lotion or things that would have made the stay better. The braai place also only came with one pack of wood for a weekend stay 2 bags 1 per day would have made more sense. But I’m just giving some things that could make it more comfortable

South AfricaThere wasn't a tong and no cloths to wipe the counters or dry the dishes. I had to go buy those, but it wasn't a major problem. The ants were also a bit of a nuisance. Besides that, nothing to complain about and we hated leaving there.
The cottage was absolutely beautiful with a lovely view. We enjoyed the peace and quiet and being away from the city. A very special touch was the chocolates they left us for Valentine's Day. The bed was very comfortable and of course, we enjoyed the hot tub. It was also lovely to have a restaurant on the property. The food at Casa Cello was really lovely and we spent a wonderful evening there. All in all, a really lovely place and recommendable.

South AfricaThe setting is a little stark around the cottage due to it being newly built. The addition of trees or a fynbos garden would soften it and make it more welcoming
Exceptional furnishings and a supremely comfy bed. The stoep is a gorgeous place to watch the sun set over the valley

South AfricaStacey was excellent, very helpful. we also appreciated the pet-friendly atmosphere that welcomed our canine family member. We enjoyed the close access to the in-house Portugese restaurant, with a good menu, good draught beer, and the full range of wines available from the Stanford Estate.

South AfricaAt first were given a cottage that was not in good condition. We were quickly moved to a Villa which was very nice. However, it did have a leak in roof around the chimney to wood stove. Also the wood we received was wet so we had to purchase our own.
Didn't have breakfast.. not sure we knew about it.

South AfricaVery minor and could be an added bonus to the cottage - would have liked a hose pipe to clean off muddy paws and feet because the door mats were wet. There were areas on the grass near both entrances that were muddy. We did not feel the hot-tub added value, we made 2 attempts to warm the water, one with the help of Richard a staff member, and gave up after 1.5hrs each time.
We chose this location for the pet-friendly policy and the fenced in self-catering cottage. We liked the location, the tranquility, the staff friendliness (were not introduced to any owners), the rolling lawns, the farm animals grazing in the fields and dam, the fact there was a restaurant on-site 8am to 5pm and that we did not have to leave the premises for 4 days. This is one of the nicest stays locally, especially that its pet-friendly. Highly recommended and we will return.

South AfricaThe mattress on lower bunk bed was too thin and not comfortable. Child landed up sleeping with his mother in the single bed. On the advert it said that there was a TV which turned out to be incorrect. As it happened, although the kids were disappointed, it was jolly good for them to play games, draw, chat etc instead but I do feel you should not advertise what isn't there.
Loved the view, the stoep, braai area, patio furniture, hot tub. Very friendly staff, so accommodating. Great shower. Lovely restaurant on the farm.

South AfricaWas rather cold so the minute the fire goes out it is rather chilly. huge thanks for the inverter, however may I suggest that it is enclosed or moved to the lounge as it tends to be noisy when working and when recharging the battery. So the fan stays on the best part of the night. Not to Lekker if you are not use to it. maybe a small fan heater for the rooms would be nice.
The newly renovated house. great hot water and all that is needed in the house. The new inverter.

South AfricaThe only thing to remember is that the tap water is brown, which was clean enough to shower in, except that it would be best to bring bottled water to drink, cook food with and brush your teeth etc., other than that, the place was perfect.
I liked everything about the Brunia Cottage, it is quaint and beautiful and has pretty much everything that you would need. Hot geyser water, Stove, mini oven, kettle, toaster, microwave, cutlery, plates, glasses, pots/pans etc. Everything we required was available for us to use. Oh yes, and the cottage has WIFI which was useful. There is a main bedroom with double bed. A guest room with a single bed and a bunk bed next to it. Lounge has two small single person couches, 2 single person benches and 1 sleeper couch opposite a fireplace, I have not tried the fireplace, however normal braai wood is provided with firelighters. Outside the back of the cottage is a wooden park table bench type thing and two wooden recliner beach chairs. It had a braai place as well. Outside is very spacious and open for kids to run around. However I assume if you have pets, then you would be offered the Sylvia Cottage (directly next to Brunia) as the Brunia Cottage has no perimeter fence, whereas the Sylvia Cottage does have for pets to stay inside.
