Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

We stayed in a beautiful, whitewashed cottage. The setting on the farm was lovely - very private, picturesque and peaceful. Having the Hen House coffee shop and restaurant on the property was very convenient as well. The owners were very friendly and helpful. We did the walk to the waterfall and swam there. There is also a farm dam to swim and canoe in.

South AfricaLoved the privacy of Riverside cottage. Loved the walk and climb to the waterfall and swimming at the waterfall. The views up there were fabulous :). I loved the starry sky and the pungent smell of the damp earth at night., the wind through the pine trees.

South AfricaThe mattress was a bit hard and uncomfortable.
We stayed at one of the cottages and absolutely loved it - the space was comfortable and the kitchen was stocked with all the amenities one would need for a weekend away. It ended up raining for most of our stay, so braaiing was out of the question, but the gas stove top worked a dream! The shower was excellent. The short hike up to the waterfall was beautiful and having the Hen House close by for meals if we were lazy along with their fantastic wines and olives made the stay an all in one experience.

United KingdomThe waterfall nearby, the proximity to the Sevilla Rock Art trail, the incredible rocks on the property itself, the wine, the shop and ability to get coffee and food at a guest house, sitting outdoors, all wonderful! The northern Cederberg area is my favourite and I would love to come back to see the rock art again, try bouldering in the area, and just be.

NetherlandsAlpha is situated in a very beautiful area and is surrounded by orange sandstone mountains. We stayed at the Vineyard cottage which was clean, comfortable and has a fully equipped kitchen. The cottage is quite secluded and it felt that we were the only ones on the farm. One of our highlights was a walk to a waterfall and we were led by one of the farm dogs. He looked after us throughout the walk and we didn't need to look at signs. We had a few swims in the farm dam which was a real pleasure. We left very refreshed. We can highly recommend Alpha.

South AfricaSomething to note, and this is perhaps because of a new build or probably because of the change in weather conditions- hot and cold temperatures. The Vineyard Cottage roof structure does make a hell of a cracking noise, especially at night when it’s quiet. Otherwise very pleasant place to stay.
The location was good, beautiful and quiet despite the main road passing by not too far off.

South AfricaIn the evenings, the dogs in the valley go crazy, and they can continue for quite some time Barking at each other, was quite annoying, cutting through the beautiful silence of nature. I also missed calculated my dates and was stuck with a couple and their kids right next to me that clearly couldn't get along and I was basically in the "room with them" while they were fighting from when they arrived till I left 3 days later. I was also disappointed with the fact that only after the booking was made it was stated that my booking wasn't allowed to use the swimming pool, and when I arrived I also figured out I wasn't allowed to make my own campfire I was so looking forward too.
The peace and quiet, the nature experience was phenomenal! The waterfall was my best experience and it's really beautiful and worth the walk! The staff was friendly considering the extreme heat while I was there and helpful when one would need assistance. Will go back with better planning ahead. Was worth my stay and had a blissful time while the school vacation didn't start. Thank you. Your place was a rest well needed while connecting to your beautiful environment.

South AfricaThe door of the chalet couldn't lock but that may have swollen due to the wet weather
We had breakfast at the Hen house which was well presented and very tasty. Freshly squeezed orange juice was a treat. Nice communal area with interesting books to chose from. Pet friendly which was a bonus. Nice bag of dry firewood supplied for the braai. Unfortunately weather was not conducive to jump into the outside hot tub.

We absolutely LOVED the Farm Stay - the family running the farm have so much attention to detail - the house was SPOTLESS clean while being super homey and comfy at the same time. Loved the sherpa doggos taking us to the waterfalls near by which was the most stunning thing I've seen in my life. Then we went to the little dam and raced on the kayaks! We also had a little pool right by the house as well, to relax after a day full of wholesomness! This place is just the best, I could live there! Thank you Alpha Excelsior :)
