How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewLovely place to stay, very peaceful. There are several hikes that are available on the property, with lovely scenery and some interesting history. There is also well presented information detailing the different types of flora and fauna that can be seen on the property during different times of the year. Nice natural pool where you get to swim with the frogs :-) Chalet is well appointed with everything that you may need.
The road could be better, but then I guess you would be staying in town and not on a farm.

Verified reviewI am very excited to have found this absolute gem. The nature reserve has a few beautiful hikes, the most amazing views and is very close to wine farms and the town of Standford. The house is spacious, clean and fully equipped. It is also situated just above a natural swimming pool. Lovely experience all together.

Verified reviewThe loacation is fantastic
The electrical appliances, were old dirty and rusty we did not use their kettle, toaster. We were not informed that the facility does not have drinking water.
Thank you for taking the time to review us and that you enjoyed our fantastic views. Our water comes fresh from the mountain stream on the property and tastes lovely. We drink it ourselves on a daily basis. The colouration in the water is a result of tannins from the fynbos, just like tea, not rust. We have assessed the feedback regarding the appliances and made appropriate changes. Please bear in mind that you are welcome to contact the management at any time before or during your stay to ask questions – our contact details are in the chalets, and on your booking details, and we live on site.

Verified reviewThe view is amazing.
1 ply toilet paper and a shower that doesn't work. The house is still set up as if we are in a drought, not only is the air-rator in shower contributing to poor flow the wind keeps blowing out the flame. Didn't have 1 decent shower. Do not appreciate a note that says it's not your staffs responsibility to wash the dishes. Actually, it is even though I will always leave a place the same way I got it. Your staff washes the bedding and clean the place once your guests leave, how is the dishes different? Place lacks finess, sunlight liquid in a shampoo bottle!
We aim to care for the environment in all we do, not just by looking after a nature reserve. Hence we prioritise sourcing our toilet paper from sustainable sources (you can even double up 1-ply to get 2-ply toilet paper) and yes we do repurpose bottles, which work just as well, rather than buy more plastic bottles that will be thrown away - that is all very intentional. If that is not you, then indeed we are not the right place for you. As regards our showers there is no water-reducing device in the showers, but what you are probably not used to is non-mains pressure. All our water is gravity-fed from water tanks, but it is perfectly good for having a decent shower. We do not understand why you say they did not work because we have plenty of guests through who enjoy lovely hot showers - maybe if you had asked us at the time we could have sorted it for you.

Verified reviewThe basin plug in the en-suite bathroom in Lobelia cottage needs to be replaced as it could not hold water making shaving or washing one's face difficult. The sliding door to the en-suite bathroom should have some sort of locking mechanism. Very irritating having a 6 year old grand daughter opening/closing/opening /closing the sliding door for fun and peeping in when grand dad is trying to have a shower or when someone is on the toilet.

Verified reviewAmazing 360 degree views and the silence, peace and tranquility of the surroundings. The fynbos and hiking trails are also superb! In terms of the home, the kitchen is really well equipped and the rooms are generous and spacious.
The house was quite stuffy and warm - and one wants to keep the windows closed because of the bugs that want to come in - so fans for the rooms would of been welcome. Patio furniture outside by the BBQ / braai would of also been nice.

Verified reviewI enjoyed no TV ! The views were perfect The silence was perfect The mountains and walks were lovely. The beds and pillows were perfect
I like a spotless shower, and I just felt that the floor of the actual shower needs some attention. The water flows out too slow from the shower. The kitchen sink had a leak, so we had to use a bucket to wash the dishes and empty the bucket everytime. But nothing major !
Glad that you enjoyed the peace and the walks. Sorry about the tap in the kitchen, which had cracked, but is now fixed. As regards our showers, they are gravity fed from natural mountain water. The pressure is never going to compare to mains pressure one finds in a town. Our staff regularly scrub our shower bases but the fact that the water is not chlorinated like municipal water, inevitably means that the grout is more easily stained.
