I recently enjoyed my first solo travel experience with a staycation at *The Dunes Guest House* in Paternoster, and it was nothing short of unforgettable. I stayed in the *Salt Room*, which offers direct access to the beach and breathtaking ocean views right outside the door—waking up to the sound and sight of the waves was truly magical. From the moment I arrived, the hospitality exceeded my expectations. Claudia, Lindiwe, and Kwanda were incredibly warm, welcoming, and attentive, making me feel right at home throughout my stay. Their genuine friendliness added a special touch to the entire experience. The complimentary breakfast each morning was another highlight—generous, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. It was so filling I couldn’t even make it through everything offered! Every aspect of my stay was thoughtfully designed to create a peaceful, rejuvenating retreat. I left feeling completely refreshed and already can’t wait to return. Without a doubt, it was one of the best weeks I've ever had. Highly recommended for anyone seeking tranquility

A very clean and friendly place!! Definitely only book a room with sea view as our friends had a non sea facing and it was definitely a letdown. It’s worth the extra cost!!! Direct access to the beach from the room. Amazing stay! Thank you!!

    Nothing to report.

The attention to detail is just amazing. It relates to their service, the decor, the food, the room and the extras in the lounge and around the pool. We will become regulars!!!! The view from my bed out onto the beach and the ocean just gets better when you go for breakfast upstairs, which by the way is really very tasty with a nice creative touch.

    refer above

We are repeat guests and always choose Dunes due to its location and easy access to the beach. The Breakfast room is beautiful and food good and we had a 4 seater right up against the viewing window best seats in he room. What I did not like is the black towels were mouldy and after showering I could smell that most of the time. Pity about that. I nice clean fresh towel smelling of woolite would have made you score 10/10

To be fair, I can’t think of anything we didn’t like!

In the Paternoster Dunes we discovered a stylish small guesthouse in a superb setting. We were in the Tranquil Room which does have a small terrace down the side of the building with direct access from the bedroom onto a seating area and a stepping stone pathway down to the top of the Dunes. We really liked the style of decoration which managed to channel ‘Africa’ in its colours and decorations but was modern and very well equipped. Our entry door opened out onto an enclosed courtyard with swimming pool and sun loungers. The breakfasts at The Dunes were a completely unexpected treat and taken on the upstairs terrace, with stunning sea views. Real thought and care went into the daily set breakfast menus. Two courses, usually kicked off with a reviving ginger shot, followed by luscious yogurt or over-night oats, piled with fresh and dried fruit, choices of fruit juice and DIY teas/coffees. Then there was then a hot breakfast offer which we were particularly impressed with — again great variety and a very high standard and freshly cooked. There wasn’t a menu as such, but what we had each day was superb. The small pool was refreshing and also sheltered from the near constant wind when we visited in February. I must put in a mention of the lovely and stylishly-decorated guest lounge upstairs where you are welcome to retreat. Every afternoon we enjoyed tea and coffee and a freshly-baked cake. In the evenings, there was a very well-stocked ‘honesty’ bar and comfortable sofas to relax into. All in all, we were completely blown away by the service, the style, the food and the views. The final completely icing on the cake — we had some relaxing treatments (massage and facial) in the on-site beauty spa on our final day. The Dunes is a 5 minute walk from the old waterfront area with lovely restaurants, cafes and arts/crafts stores. Plenty to see, do and eat. Check out the escorted Kayak trips to the far rocks.
