Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

South AfricaUnfortunately it was raining so one had to be careful of all the stairs (at my age). I felt the towels were very small.
The host was wonderful and cooked us a delicious dinner at very late notice. The next morning we had another great breakfast. The property has a beautiful view but we were only there for one night and it was drizzling.

South AfricaThe fact that I only stayed for 1 night, but this was not a vacation.
When I decided to make a reservation it was all about the location and it did not disappoint. What a fantastic direct view on the ocean!

GuatemalaYou have to be extremely observant of the only two access roads to this bay, there’s a good stretch of around 20km that it is not paved, it’s not a horrible road but it would be a bit bumpy if your car is not high enough. Once you reach this village, it’s peaceful. You’re overlooking at the grand ocean and the host is extremely welcoming! He made sure to wait on me as I arrived late at night and was up first thing in the morning with the best attitude to make a delicious breakfast for you. Rooms are a bit outdated but comfy enough… there’s a dog on the property who is sweet but also very protective of the premises, I would double think before coming with my own pets. Wish I could have stayed for at least 2 nights. Parking is on the outside but with only one access roads, right by the rooms.

CanadaI can see why Nick gets fabulous reviews- he is charming & interesting, has had such a fascinating life and cooks a fab dinner & breakfast. We all loved his hospitality. We were 7 Canadians & an ex Zimbabwean. I'll e-mail Nick about some small issues but honestly, it was a great place to spend the night with the waves crashing & Basil wandering in & out! Value for money. If upgraded rooms and a tarred road are on your must-have list, this is not for you. This is 5 star African hospitality, scenery & location!!!!

Germany-
Nice and cozy little house; they only have ~5 rooms and it's so beautiful! The view over the sea is great! And we loved Oyster Bay as a place so much. Most beautiful beach! The host is also very nice, he cooks great food (loved the breakfast!!) and the rooms are neat and tidy. You get the most beautiful sunsets and we even saw dolphins while sitting on the terrace.

United KingdomHad a dire experience with service from a completely incompetent waitress at the Nautilus restaurant in the village.
Amazing location and view from the room, right on the wild coast. Long rough dirt roads to get there but fine with a standard car. Very informal. Great welcome. Comfortable room. Good cooked breakfast.

By the end of the trip, I had fallen in love with the place. Like, head-over-heels. The very place I was ready to write off as a disaster turned out to be the most magical little retreat.

United KingdomThe road! It had recently been ‘done’ but that meant it was in a worse condition than before. I’m sure it will improve as time goes on but it will never be a perfect road. Depending which way you go, it’s around 15 Kim’s of rough road. If you have an appropriate car, it wouldn’t be a problem - we had a VW Polo so it was slow going!! If you’re renting a 4x4 anyway, then it’s worth going to Oyster Bay.
The views were spectacular. You could feel very relaxed here - great place to write a book or similar project! Nick and Steph were full of good advice and information so it was always a pleasure to talk to them. The evening meal we had was delicious - beautiful fish and delicious steak with veg and salad. Perfect! You could sit in bed and look out at the sea which was fantastic. There’s a beautiful beach too.

United KingdomThe road to Oyster Bay from Humansdorp was unpaved and very poor in places. We were advised to use the road via St Francis Bay to leave. This was a bit better but we would have appreciated being advised to use this route beforehand. The roads in Oyster Bay itself are mainly paved but beware the speed bump just before the Lodge which we struggled to navigate in our hired Toyota Corolla! Also, the description on Booking.com indicated that there is a bar and that evening meals are available, which is no longer the case, although Nick does provide an evening meal when the local restaurant is closed. The dinner Nick cooked us when this was the case was very good value and tasty and he provided a reasonable choice. The lack of bar wasn't a problem for us as we had brought some supplies with us but future guests may want to be aware of this.
Very laid back vibe to this charming guest house overlooking the sea. We had a nicely decorated, comfortable and pleasant room with amazing views. The owner, Nick, was very friendly, informative and helpful. We were able to view dolphins and whales from the spacious decking which runs along the front of the property. Nice walks direct from the property and the amazing beach looks like it goes on forever.
