Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

South AfricaI know the bird farm is part of earning money for the farm but the noise is excruciating. We stayed next to the house and it is not a great experience. The owners wife should be more friendly. she is as unfriendly as her birds are loud. The restaurant on the premises served Lamb Shank. It was cold inside, not tasty and made me sick the next day. On our cape tour, we visited 6 places to stay in 11 days and this was the worst of them all. I am not impressed with this place at all.
The breakfast was great and the staff friendly

South AfricaOur breakfast was not great. The chef didn’t not know how to make eggs and overall the breakfast was very underwhelming. I would prefer to pay slightly less and rather go for breakfast somewhere else. This property should consider offering an option that does not include breakfast.
I loved the Cape Dutch architecture and the beautiful old rooms with thatch roof and original doors and windows :)

United KingdomThe owners were not friendly or engaging with us. The very large and loud collection of birds is not good for sleep and full relaxation.
The caretaker was friendly and welcoming. Breakfasts were lovely , fair value for money in a lovely area. Safe

South AfricaThe 20 birds in a cage outside our place going off at 4.30am and thriughout the morning was awful. Ask to stay far away from the middle. Breakfast was tasty, albeit tiny. Being served 1 tiny mushroom cut into 4 for e.g. was really disappointing for the cost.
Place looks lovely and very rustic. Quite quaint.

South AfricaThe outside area at the back of our room, could have been swept and the bird mess on table / chairs cleaned before our arrival, If one likes a sleep in this might not be the place, the macaws have a load screech which starts at daylight. If booked in the self-catering units one might escape the macaws call as these units are a little further from their cages. The rooms do have TV's but don't have the Dstv sports channels, there are the movie channels and netflix etc. The decor is very mix and match but everything you need is there.
Breakfast was very good everything you can expect with a buffet and can be enjoyed from the veranda. The bed was comfortable with clean linen. Coffee / tea provided however no biscuit or rusks. Nice big bathroom with enough clean towels and soaps. Staff are very helpful and always willing to go the extra mile to make your stay enjoyable.

South AfricaPlenty of noise (to be expected, as this is a farm, after all) and for the price paid, I’d expect the bottled water and coffee pods to be included in the price, as with other guesthouse in the same price category.
Beautiful area, on-site restaurant, farm atmosphere, comfortable and soft linen

United StatesThe property manager was a nightmare, there was clear control issues. She kept being aggressive about reading the rule book even if we asked the simplest question. If you work in hospitality I would expect a minimum level of decency and helpfulness to your guests. There was non of that. She was cold and rude.
Property was simple and what I was looking for. Surrounds are beautiful. There are some Animals on the farm which was cool but other than that nothing special.

South AfricaThe WiFi signal was very poor in our chalet. The restaurant is closed on Mondays - but a lot of places in Wellington are closed Mondays. Artefacts left by previous occupants.
Breakfast was good. A mixture of continental and some bacon with scrambled eggs. Place was clean and the shower had decent pressure. The staff checked with us daily to see if we needed anything.

South AfricaIf you want to experience a real-life Basil Fawlty then you're in luck. ZhuZhu can sometimes be curt and short and appears to have little tolerance for guests on some mornings. As we arrived, she welcomed us with "they have a dog". We had informed them on booking.com and even confirmed that the place welcomed pets. Once we settled in, we took our dog for a walk, and their bigger dog, on meeting our dog, went for her. From then one we kept the dog in the room, and if we did meet their dogs, we shoed them away, and they listened. You are not allowed to bring your dog to breakfast, or the restaurant. So, the place is not exactly pet friendly more tolerant of you having a pet in your room. This is fine as long as you plan around it. We had Breakfast in shifts for example. Some mornings Zhu Zhu was as pleasant as Sibel other days her inner Basil Fawlty, meant dealing with her was not easy, with her implying your requirements were inconvenient. We even joked about this with a fellow visitor. The last day we stayed there the staff took our breakfast order and this seemed to work far better. All the other staff including Maragret were very friendly. One issue is the birds, the wake you up in the morning, and chatter all the time, which can be pleasant. You are not allowed near them though. There are also some strange instructions in the rules, like out of nowhere it says, "spiders make a web in 30 minutes and catch lots of mosquitoes" and "do not put cats in the microwave". This does make you ask what caused these notes.
We stayed in the family room. The beds were comfortable and there is a little extra space in the rooms, with a small desk in each room. The family room shares a bathroom, that has a full-size bath and shower. The soaps and creams are in dispensing bottles, so no wastage. The breakfast is basic but satisfying. We were able to have our dog in the room and could take her on a walk on the property. The walk to the dam goes through the horse paddocks and around to the top field where there are a lot of bee hives. The rooms are neat, and cleaned daily, with old world charm. Each room has an outside sitting area which was great to use. Restaurant is well priced.

South AfricaIt would have been nice if there were more on-site options for supper (e.g. restaurant stayed open, braai facilities near the room or access to main kitchen). There was a microwave in the room though.
Rolf & Margaret were accommodating in that we asked for a late check-out & ended up checking in early as well. We were in town for an event. They also accommodated us & other guests by extending their breakfast cut off time. The MCC was lovely and the tranquility of this venue on a crisp Autumn’s day, late afternoon, was the perfect way to enjoy it. The birds are also something special.
