Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

No faults at all
I had a fantastic stay at One the Bay in Port Elizabeth. The unit was clean, neat, and well-equipped with all the amenities I needed for a comfortable stay. The bed and blankets were especially cozy, making for a great sleep. The grounds are beautifully maintained, adding to the relaxing atmosphere, and the location couldn’t be better — close to everything yet peaceful and quiet. Check-in was smooth and the staff were friendly and efficient throughout. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a comfortable and convenient stay in PE!

We had a wonderful stay at **On The Bay** this past weekend! From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by Lindy and her team, who went above and beyond to ensure a comfortable and memorable experience. The property itself is beautifully maintained, offering a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere with stunning views. My room was spotless, well-appointed, and had all the amenities I needed for a perfect stay. The attention to detail, from the cozy bedding to the thoughtful touches, made me feel right at home. Breakfast was a highlight—delicious, fresh, and served with a smile. The staff was incredibly friendly, always available to help with recommendations and ensure I had everything I needed. My stay of 5 nights in February at On the Bay was a very pleasant one. The house, garden and my room were just as advertised. I really enjoyed the extra space of the bigger room and the big bed. The quiet surroundings and the vicinity to the beach, and boardwalk is really convenient. The breakfast was prepared freshly every morning and it was possible to accomodate my wishes without problems. Lindy, André, Nomi, and Noma took great care of me and I would definitely recommend to stay here.

We liked absolutely everything about our stay.
Staff were super welcoming and accommodating. We were amazed at our accommodation. So much value for your spend. It was comfortable, set in beautiful manicured gardens and everything was at our fingertips. It's in a great location too - so close to the beach. I highly recommend staying here!

Thank you very much for your excellent hospitality, we thoroughly enjoyed staying with you. Your garden is absolutely beautiful, the rooms are perfect!, modern and stylish! We had everything we needed, including fresh milk for coffee and yummy treats. Superb breakfast, presented beautifully and fantastic coffee! We felt at peace staying here and will definitely be back.

Staff were very friendly and accommodating. it's a lovely establishment, very homey with a beautiful garden outside. I had booked for a child by mistake they offered to make breakfast for my father to cover the cost of a child. Thank Lindy and Magda 🙏❤️
