How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

The pool didn’t look very clean
Breakfast was delicious & the location was great for visiting the caves which is what we wanted to do.

Our hosts were exceptional. We felt like being with friends. The guest house self was stunning, its decor inside and the garden with pool outside sublime. A very classy establishment filled with warmth and interest. Daniel and Sonia - thank you 😊! Caroline and Hans 😘

The bed wasn’t the most comfortable.
We absolutely loved the house and grounds, it was so peaceful. A very good selection was offered for our breakfast.

description on room read that there is a balcony and garden furniture - it is misleading - as the room does not have a balcony or garden furniture - it is there - but it is part of guest house reception and outside balcony and garden furniture - but it is not part of the room - it is communal - description reads in a way that appears that each room has a balcony

WiFi reception indoors could have been better.
Daniel & Sonja were informative & helpful hosts. They provided a very good breakfast. The accommodation was clean & spacious. The location was ideal for the local restaurants & travelling to the Cango Caves.

I like old properties I think they have a lot of character Which Oakdene has 100% it was a little dark at times however .

Sonia and Daniel were natural hosts - so welcoming, friendly, humorous, interesting and most of all knowledgeable and practical about where to go and what to see. Daniel's advice re Swartberg Pass was great ...do it anticlockwise and visit the olive farm (De Rustica) en route. Their property is extremely interesting; full of character and history. But it is also extremely clean and comfortable. There is a beautiful shady garden with pool. Breakfast was delicious with plenty of choice. Daniel also gave excellent advice regarding restaurants and made bookings for us to ensure we had a great table each time. We can highly recommend Ebony and Ivory, and Buffelsdrift restaurants. We hope to stay at Oakdene again! Thank you, Sonia and Daniel.

Everything and the owners were welcoming and friendly.
The property was over 150 years old and the decor and furnishings were going back to this era. The house was like a museum to times gone by and the owners did a fabulous job with renovating and furnishing it was beautiful. The pool and garden were also lovely

We only had a quick stop over in Oudshoorn, but David was very helpful in providing information about the local eateries and things to do. We loved the traditional feel of the house and the fantastic breakfast!

Everything was superb!
Really beautiful guesthouse with green serene garden with a pool. Spacious and tidy rooms. House itself full of little details. Lovely host couple made us feel welcome. Breakfast was delicious!! On the recommendation of the hosts we had dinner closeby (7km drive) at Buffelsdrift Game Lodge Restaurant Loved it!!

We had a lovely welcome from Daniel and Sonja , the Oakdene is in a great location for the local attractions and there is a great selection of restaurants nearby that you can walk to and the setting is wonderful with plenty of history The Terrace is a great spot for having a relaxing drink and breakfast and we welcomed being able to use the pool to cool down in the heat The room was ideal for the two of us and the bed was very comfortable
