We absolutely loved our stay at Mossel – the Gem of Yzerfontein! 🌊 The place was exceptionally clean, and the view—combined with the short walk to the beach—was simply amazing. It truly made for a peaceful and relaxing getaway. We will definitely recommend it to friends and family, and we’re already looking forward to coming back! Thank you for making our visit so memorable!

    Everything was perfect!

No internet I could use. VPN or something I had to leave a day early and no refund for the night I paid for but had to leave early due to no connection to the WWW to do work

    Property response:

Thank you for your feedback. I'm truly sorry to hear that you struggled with the internet connection and had to leave early. I understand how important reliable internet is, especially when you need to work remotely. Just to clarify from my side: when you let me know on Saturday morning that there was no internet, I immediately contacted the service provider and arranged for a technician to come out the same day. The connection in the main house was tested and confirmed to be working. We then tried to test the connection in the flat, but although your car and dog were there, the door wasn’t opened. I tried to reach you via WhatsApp and by phone to gain access and to give feedback, but unfortunately, I couldn’t get hold of you. I also left a message asking whether you were using MTN, as we’ve previously had reports that MTN coverage can be unreliable in Yzerfontein. The service provider gave me some advice that could help depending on the network, but I didn’t receive a response from you to follow through. We always do our best to resolve issues as quickly as possible, and it’s unfortunate that we couldn’t sort this out due to the communication gap. I would have been very happy to assist further if I had been able to reach you.

BEST 100% pet friendly accomodation out of all places we visited before. Right on pet friendly beach. Very clean and super safe location. Thankyou for all your kindness, treats and help with anything I asked.

The location is the best, and the fact that there is a closed in area for pets. Lovely manicured lawn, which doggies LOVED, just sitting on the grass and enjoying the nature. Simple but perfect! Has everything one would need for a beach stay and many extra's, Doggie treats, sweeties, and Wine to choose from with an Honesty jar - great touch! Thank you!

    Location to beach for dogs

The fact that drapes hang over doors and windows with people right behind it. Weird set-up, lack of privacy when you can hear everything they’re doing in kitchen and listen to conversations. Loadshedding was also not great. Think a gas stove and light bulbs that charges themselves would be a good edition, and gas kettle

    Property response:

Thank you for your feedback—I truly appreciate every one of them. I’d like to clarify a few points. The windows and doors are fitted with blinds, not drapes. Regarding the layout, the main house is indeed connected to the apartment. However, when inside the unit, it is nearly soundproof—just as it is in the main house. The only area where sounds may carry is on the stoep. The residents of the main house are very private, as you likely noticed, and you would probably only see them when they take their dogs for a walk. With regard to loadshedding, as I mentioned, we have invested in an expensive solar system but have been struggling to get the installer back to properly configure it. This has been frustrating for us as well. Because of this, a gas stove, rechargeable bulbs, and a gas kettle are not necessary additions at this stage. Lastly, I did ask for clarification on cleanliness, as most guests find the place spotless and exactly as shown in the photos. Interestingly, while some guests have recently commented on cleanliness, when I request specifics to improve, they confirm that everything was clean. I must admit, this is a bit puzzling to me.

The fact that it was right by the beach & we could just walk the dogs out the gate for beach access

Not much not to like, but the adjoining sliding doors were a bit distracting for the dogs if they hear or smell others on the other side, but it was not a train smash.

It’s proximity to the beach… The kitchen and leisure area …

For me, I found the toilet seat unacceptable it kept on slipping - not the right size worst of all was the fact that after dark outside lights burned throughout the night making stargazing impossible My partner who is very sensitive to smell complained about the smell of animals and the fact that the linen was all polyester .

    Property response:

We regret that the toilet seat did not meet your expectations and will certainly inspect it to ensure it is properly secured. The outdoor lighting is in place for security purposes, and while we understand that it may have impacted your stargazing experience, guest safety remains our priority. Regarding the scent of animals, we do accommodate dogs, but we take great care to ensure that our space is thoroughly cleaned and maintained at a high standard. While we understand that some guests may have heightened sensitivities, we encourage future travelers to carefully review accommodation details before booking to ensure the environment aligns with their specific needs. Additionally, we would like to clarify that the linen provided is 100% cotton, not polyester as mentioned in the review. We will also be reaching out to Booking.com to suggest the addition of a category for guests with specific material or environmental sensitivities, which could help ensure better-informed choices for both guests and hosts in the future.

Car parking on the street . No allocated space

    Property response:

Hi thank you really for the feed back. Really appreciate all of them :)). About the street parking. It says on the website of booking.com, that it is street parking and in my messages. We apologise for this but we cannot change it. Yzerfontein as you could see is very safe and a lot of guests and owners do street parking only at other properties. Hope you do understand.

Loved the sound of the sea so close and the view just over the dune. Loved how dog friendly it was— with a water bowl ready, treats and gates and fences. Safer than other West Coast towns, it seemed. Flat is well equipped with an inverter for loadshedding.

We were very aware of the owners of the house — heard their tv all the time. We had to park our car on the street outside the property. The pillows were flimsy and thin, but then this seems to be the case in most rental accommodation.

Walls and curtains is dirty and entrance has a terrible smell

    Property response:

Hi Suretha, Thank you so much for your feedback—I truly appreciate it. I'm really sorry that I couldn't accommodate parking in the garage. As stated on the website and in my messages, only street parking is available. I understand that this may have been frustrating for you, and I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience it caused. Regarding the smell at the entrance, it comes from the Weber braai, which we need to store inside. We ensure it is thoroughly cleaned after each use, but as a fellow South African, I’m sure you can understand that a lingering braai aroma is sometimes unavoidable. Once again, I appreciate your feedback and will take it into account to improve the experience for future guests.
