Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

South Africakitchen utensils were scanty. Nothing to use when making a braai, like a suitable metal dish and lid, tongs for meat and coals not available, internet quality was bad, not very available the interior looked tired the outside of most of the buildings need attention as do the grounds few arrangements made for load shedding , only 1 globe was of the kind that came on when load shedding. Had to ask for torches, only got 2 for 4 people

South AfricaThe Ballroom Cottage has a large, beautiful wild garden at the back, fully enclosed for the dogs (which is fantastic for us), however the grass is very long, which makes it difficult to enjoy properly and also my 2 little Chihuahuas could barely find their way around as they couldn't see over the grass! I would recommend that the top part of the garden (coming up to the stairs) is mowed regularly and kept as a nice lawn, with a table and chairs to sit at and then the bottom half of the garden can be left wild, as it is really beautiful in its untouched state. Also, the main farmhouse needs some painting and "refreshing" on the outside, as it looks a bit unloved. Spasie did mention that they would be busy with this project soon, which I was happy to hear, as it would be great to see this magnificent farmhouse restored to its former glory.
Beautiful historic farm house and grounds in a fantastic location, close to all the wine farms and a short drive to Franschoek and Stellenbosch. The Ballroom Cottage is absolutely gorgeous, with large rooms, beautiful wooden floors and antique, original finishes. Full of character and history. Spasie, the host, was so friendly and helpful and we really enjoyed our stay and would have loved to have stayed longer.

GermanyFar away from Franshoek (14km). You have to prepare your own breakfast in an historic kitchen. But there are lots of nice cafés in Franshoek.

United KingdomThere are pigs in the grounds which are adorable. We did notice that they are painfully thin which left me concerned for their welfare. The shower in the Garden Room is little more than a dribble. We did report this so hopefully its fixed.
This was my second stay at Lekkerwijn. It’s a beautiful and peaceful place. It really is like staying in a private home but not in an intrusive way.

South AfricaThe property was not true to the pictures - I was concerned about the security and safety as it is not fenced, and I arrived back late at night alone. The room I booked on Booking. Com was not the room I got. I booked a self-catering room with a patio, I got neither. My room was part of the manor house. This was very disappointing. There seems to be a discrepancy between what appears on the website and what Lekkerwijn Historical house actually has. The water did not flow out of the shower, the drain was blocked.
The staff were helpful

United Arab EmiratesIt was very run down, shower tiles missing, shower rail rusted with old shower curtain, kitchen very limited, oven tray dirty inside , grounds unkept, windows incredibly dusty en dirty, plugs and wires every where. No dustbins in room, bathroom door had no lock , towels had stains on, all in all the place needs a lot of work and a lot of TLC but has so much potential. Loved the dogs roaming around , very friendly , but poo needs to be picked up. Swimming pool was dirty so we didn’t use it.
Location only because it was close to wedding venue

New ZealandEasy to find during the day, but the food delivery guy could not find it in the evening.
Amazing historic house right in the centre of the South African wine area. You really smell the old oak in the history of this very well mentained house. I had a great conversations with the host, she is a lovely woman. Telling me stories of the history and preparing a small early breakfast. Would definitely love to stay here again and highly recommend it!
