John and Joy are so kind and gave us a lovely welcome. We hadn't thought about where we would eat but John had booked us a great restaurant in the area. The house is just amazing, full of wonderful treasures and loving touches. We felt as if we had stepped back in time. Thankyou both for giving us a very special memory. Dino, Norma, Julia & Alistair

Kingna Lodge is a stunningly decorated Victorian home on the main street of Montagu. Each room had its own charming bathroom and period furniture. The room has a heater and extra blanket, which is needed in autumn as it gets nippy in the evenings, plus the bed has a top sheet, always a nice touch. Loadshedding means no power but the rooms have long-life bulbs and the oil lamps in the hallway bring back the glory days of this magnificent house. John is an excellent host and will organise your evening dinner bookings – highly recommend the Montagu Country Hotel and The Victorian for dinner and the Rambling Rose for breakfast. If you ask John, he will give you a tour of the private rooms in the house and the history, including Nelson Mandela’s visit. Have a G&T in the bar or sit on the veranda and watch the sunset reflected off the mountains. John is an excellent host who sorts out little problems immediately.

We were greeted by John our host & made to feel very welcome. We’d had a long journey & immediately offered a drink & sit on the porch. Amazing house, full of really interesting memorabilia. Stayed in the room visited by Nelson Mandela, felt incredible to see into some of that history. A hot day, so we sat by the pool & had a lovely swim. Fantastic honestly bar. Comfortable lounge areas. John booked our restaurant for us & gave us great information about the local area. A wonderful stay.
