Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

A Magical Escape in the Heart of the Eastern Free State We had the absolute pleasure of staying in the iconic Twin Towers at Fairview Estates, and it exceeded every expectation. The setting is storybook-beautiful — surrounded by serene mountains, reflective dams, and herds of charming alpacas and spotted horses. The converted grain silos are both rustic and artistic, with warm interiors, quirky decor, and panoramic views that steal your breath away. From morning coffee beside the fire pit to sunset walks with the animals, every moment was grounding and magical. The hosts have created a soulful retreat where comfort, creativity, and nature live in harmony. This place isn’t just a stay — it’s a memory etched in stone and sky. Highly recommended for couples, families, and anyone needing a peaceful reset.

South AfricaSo much attention has gone into making the towers cosy and comfortable. A consideration is to upgrade the couches in the lounge area.
Peaceful and secluded in a picturesque setting. The eclectic and carefully curated decor, and transformation of a once twin silo into a twin tower bungalow is brilliant. We loved the working farm animals, especially the quirky Alpaca and majestic horses. All in all a fantastic and highly recommended experience for a couple.

South AfricaThere was not enough cupboard space. We stayed for 2 nights & could just about squeeze everything in. Any longer and someone will have to live out their suitcase.
The units are beautiful. The cookies, wine and olive oil were very welcome. We enjoyed our stay!

South AfricaGas fridge and gas shower (although expected for off grid) were the least fun part. Not an issue for us, but note there is an 18 km gravel road to the farm.
Quirky accommodation next to dam with the most spectacular views of the sandstone mountains. Great place if you are looking for something away the crowds - blissful solitude. Used it as a base for surrounding areas, including Clarens. The off grid solar works perfectly, there is even a small tv. Worth the walk to the overhang cave and potholes.

South AfricaWould have liked more signage to the overhanging cave including distance markers, we couldn't make it there in a good attempt.
The farm itself was the highlight, we loved the alpacas on the doorstep. The Twin Towers are very unique, we had an amazing stay here. The space is comfortable and had everything we needed. The biggest surprise was how warm it was, being middle of winter we expected to be cold but there were enough heaters, electric blankets and the fireplace. The potholes on the farm are a must visit. The farm is at the end of a long dirt road, I have never experienced a place more quiet and peaceful.

South AfricaIf you want to spiritually reboot, unplug and refresh your soul in one of the most beautiful eastern Free state areas, the Damn Caravan is the place to be… Experience the unforgettable luxurious and unique glamping ambiance of this unique mobile dam house. Arriving at sundown, a falsetto (false soprano) frog choir welcomed us from the small farm dam and they kept the band going during the braai and through the night! Early morning Egyptian geese (they look like pottery geese) and red knobbed coots, alias “bleshoenders” were playing in the dam while we had our coffee on the deck in Arzberg porcelain (the kitchen is equipped with everything you wish for). Interior decor is stylish Art Deco - rather quirky art. Cozy high quality duck feather duvets and Alpaca wool pillows invite you to bed at night. We took many long strolls in the beautiful farm landscape with surrounding sandstone cliffs, willow trees and poplar forests and fell instantly in love with the camel like Alpacas with their gorgeous teddy bear faces. A big thank you to our hostess and her family for sharing their earthy paradise. Will we be back? A definite YES.

South AfricaNo need to comment!
This is a very special place hidden away from the business of the world. The surrounding environment is beautiful. The farm is well taken care of, and having the animal life around brings comfort and excitement to children. The accommodation is excellent, promoting a relaxing and creative atmosphere. All amenities are there, and the kitchen and bedrooms are well equipped. One has to be prepared for electrical outages at times if there is bad weather, but that is something we are all used to living in South Africa. I do recommend that one comes prepared for all meals and necessary needs met as it is a long drive back into town.
