How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. The location of the guest house is directly over the road from a busy petrol station which was very noisy and disruptive with loud noises commencing as early as 5am each morning.

Window with single layer glass: there were strong wind and you seem to be outside with so strong noise. Safe area but the glass and a weak lock is the only obstacle for a thief potentially to enter. Extractor in toilet full of dust solidificated. I asked for cancellation after only 3 days from the booking and the owner declined without any care (reasonable and in her rights, not very kind - this just as a comment but nothing wrong)..
This guest did want to Cancel his reservation by saying that he had injured himself, but after my not wanting to Cancel, as his notice was too short. He arrived at our property, with no sign of injury and walked up the stairs with his luggage unaided. We saw on camera that he had 'a Guest' the first day of his arrival, and then and there after he some how managed to Block our Camera. He possibly had something to hide and I guess that this is the reason for his wanting to suddenly Cancel his reservation. I personally think that he was just 'sour-grapes" about me not willing to accept his cancellation. This is Cape Town SA and most guesthouses don't have double layer of Glass. Regarding the Safety of our property, we do have a Security Camera, we have a very security gate in front of our property. Plus the apartment in which Andrea stayed has a Security Gate! We are very aware about who comes onto our property as our guest's safety is important to us. Best wishes

Communication could have been improved. Found out during my stay that visitors are not allowed. You need to report to the landlord before having even a make up artist coming in the apartment. Found out a day before that a R2000 deposit was required (understood, but would have been appropriate to know before time.

Regarding the "makeup artists" who arrived at the front gate at 4am in the morning is questionable, regards to our and other guests safety. Verified reviewCamps Bay is usually very expensive, so I was surprised to find such an affordable option in such a good area. The place is on top of the hill and has a lovely view of the ocean. It's really wonderful to wake up to it in the morning. The apartment itself is perfect for a couple. Its clean and neat, the bed is very comfortable, and it has all the amenities one needs. The host was very helpful and responded quickly and clearly to any questions I had. I would recommend Camps Bay Studio Guesthouse to anyone visiting Cape Town. The six days my wife and I spent there were the highlight of our month-long trip to South Africa. My only regret is not booking a longer stay there.

Verified reviewThis is the fourth property we have stayed on in Rontree Avenue, Camps Bay. The property is superbly situated in Camps Bay. We stayed in apartment 2 and we’re grateful to be able to use the lift to access the accommodation. As the number of steps could of been a problem for less active people. The views from the balcony are lovely over looking the bay, the BBQ is a bonus, with WiFi and kitchen. The property is good value for money compared with other properties in the area.
Their are a number of items that would benefit from either being replaced or upgraded , for example kitchenware, pillows and furniture on balcony. the shower is in need of re grouting.

Verified reviewVery nice accommodation with spectacular view, the lady who owns it is fantastic woman, she helps you with everything, we will definitely come back again next year. Small shop with everything on the opposite site, the walk to the beach is 5 min and very nice.
