We loved the homey feel of Buchu. High quality bedding, lovely undercovered braai/stoep. A very safe area, right across from the village green, a 5 minute walk from restuarants & shops. An easy 10 minute walk to the river area, from where you can stroll along a peaceful boardwalk/trail. Our dog loved the huge backyard. Our hosts were so friendly and considerate. We'd recommend this home, for sure.

A large self catering house with access to a pool which was perfect on a hot afternoon swim. Kitchen was perfectly kitted out with everything we needed. We made full use of the braai room and very large garden. 2 big bedrooms where comfortable. Location of the house was perfect - 2 mins from the main road but not too close that it was noisy.

The lawn could have maybe been mowed but I'm stretching - didn't really bother us. The two big chairs in the lounge were a bit in the way - I would imagine in winter if you wanted to access the fireplace, they would get in the way.

Person who opened the door did not stay to greet or show us around. From the get go I felt very uncomfortable and unsafe. The house was not what we expected(I had confirmed, before our trip, that the house was spacious, open and had a comfortable indoor/outdoor living space which we wanted) Bedroom/bathroom doors & windows were all still closed when we walked in, lawn not mowed, garden was unkept...we have stayed in many "old" houses before, but this one needs TLC. I voiced my concern re SAFETY and was told to be vigilant and close doors and windows in areas we would not be in. We did not stay!!

The location & facilities were perfectly suited to our family and pet requirements. The children really enjoyed the pool and our pet had so much fun playing on the lawn.

If we would consider a longer stay eg 7-10days, then access to laundry facilities (washing machine) would probably be preferable.

This is a review for Num-num 'cottage' which is basically a poor garage conversion. The photos of the property you book are very very confusing. They show the Buchu cottage and garden which is false information as the Num mum garage conversion next door is awful with a junk load of furniture and certainly not worthy of being on any website. The outside space is so bad, an unkept garden with an outside table that's falling apart. The door leading out to this area is broken, doesn't close or lock. The shower is full of black mildew and in dire need of a good clean. The TV didn't work and after contacting the owner eventually after a protracted experimental period managed to get it to work, by then we had missed the rugby we wanted to watch. Finally the front gate leading onto the road was not able to lock, broken! Which meant we felt insecure.

This review is for the converted garage….Num-num is where we stayed not Buchu. We liked the owner she was extremely helpful and the location as it is a wonderful village.

The converted garage did not meet any of our expectations for a property in South Africa. It was very shabby and the kitchen items were old and cluttered. The owner did bring a hairdryer but I couldn’t use it as there wasn’t a socket that I could locate to put the plug in. In nut shell the inside and outside sitting areas were extremely poor and we struggled to praise it.

A lovely cottage well located in the beautiful village of Stanford. It was spacious, comfortable and well equipped with everything we needed. It felt like home. We were sad to leave and hope to return one day. Marié was an excellent host. She was there to welcome us, gave us useful information on the area and kept in contact.

The front gate was difficult to lock.

Weren't allowed to use the pool which was advertised. Were not set up for load shedding

    Property response:

Hi Rory, we're so sorry about this misunderstanding. We have taken a lot of trouble to try to avoid this and thought that we'd cracked it by adding a clear note to the photo of the pool. The note explains that the pool in Buchu's private garden is for their use only, while you were booked into Num-num. When Buchu is not booked we make the pool available to Num-num. Presumably it wasn't clear enough so, huge apologies.

A quaint and cozy cottage ideally situated close to all amenities and very well equipped. A wonderful logfire, smart tv, gas stove and solar lighting all contributed to a convenient stay. We happened to be there during the floods, and our hosts were amazing. They were continually checking to make sure we were fine and if we needed anything and updating us with road closure information, etc. They went above and beyond. Also gave us great advice re local restaurants and activities.

    Nothing to dislike. Was great
