How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewOne of the most beautiful and memorable places I’ve stayed at, with incredibly friendly and helpful staff. After booking, we were surprised to learn that the lodge is about 5 hours away from Cape Town — and since it was fully booked, we could only stay for one night. Our afternoon game drive was scheduled for 2:30 PM, but we were still on the road coming from Cape Town. I contacted them, and they kindly agreed to wait for us, updating the time to 2:15 PM. I kept them updated on my location, and they were so accommodating. The room was spacious, comfortable, and well-maintained. The surroundings are stunning and perfect for a getaway. I tried the vehicle safari, the horseback safari, and the picnic experience. Personally, the horseback safari was my favorite — such a unique and exciting way to explore. The vehicle safari was a bit less thrilling for me as I didn’t get to see animals up close or spot the Big Five, especially the lion I was hoping to see. Still, it was a lovely experience. The picnic setup was beautiful — they prepare a basket for you and drive you to the picnic spot so you can arrange it however you like. The food in the basket wasn’t exactly to my taste, but the location and atmosphere were amazing. I highly recommend booking at least two nights, especially if you’re coming from far away, or staying in nearby areas to make the most of your visit. The safari activities are also great for kids — I saw many children enjoying themselves. Overall, the price is very reasonable for the experience, and it’s definitely worth adding to your itinerary.

Although the golf cart service wasn't originally designated for guest transportation, the staff kindly made an exception for my mother due to the distance of her room. ⸻ Subject: Formal Complaint Regarding Unprofessional Behavior at Safari Resort Dear Booking.com Customer Service, I am writing to formally raise a serious complaint regarding my recent stay at a safari resort booked through your platform. In over 50 years of hotel stays, this was by far the worst reception experience I have ever encountered. This morning at 8:00 AM, I kindly requested a golf cart to take me and my wife from our room to the restaurant for breakfast. The staff member who answered the phone was extremely rude, unfriendly, and abruptly hung up on me. She justified her behavior by saying, “We are not disabled,” which I found deeply offensive and inappropriate. My wife suffers from asthma, and walking up the stairs in cold weather poses a real risk to her health. Despite explaining this, our request for assistance was dismissed in a manner that lacked both compassion and professionalism. I escalated the incident to the front desk manager, provided her with full details, and requested contact information for the resort’s general manager. I subsequently spoke with the general manager and reported the entire incident, including the disrespectful attitude and unacceptable behavior. Hanging up on a guest seeking help is a blatant display of unprofessionalism, especially in a hospitality environment that should value care, respect, and dignity—particularly for elderly guests and those with health conditions. I sincerely hope Booking.com takes this matter seriously and re-evaluates the partnership with this resort. Such behavior tarnishes the reputation of your platform and undermines guest trust. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I am happy to provide further details or documentation if needed.
Dear Abdulrahman, At Botlierskop we always welcome feedback from our valued customers as we always strive to make visits unforgettable. We therefore welcome any comments, suggestions or even criticism. Unfortunately, sometimes we believe that it is necessary to explain criticism which we believe are not coherent and justified in the light of the circumstances. We believe this complaint needs clarification. In short, the guest indeed requested a golf cart from his accommodation, for his wife, to the lodge for breakfast. The guests stayed a night and this request being made the last day of their stay. Our staff indicated that golf carts for normal transport can only be made available for guests with disabilities. The guest did not inform our staff that his wife had asthma, specifically in light of the fact that she walked around the lodge for their entire stay. Our staff attempted to explain that golf carts are unfortunately only available for disabled guests and for luggage. The guest refused to accept the explanation and, unfortunately, became aggressive and, to an extent, unreasonable, which indeed made it challenging to address his complaint. We wish to reiterate that we remain committed to welcoming constructive criticism as it helps us to strive for excellence. This unfortunate incident was indeed investigated and will most definitely assist us in ensuring that every guest’s stay is unforgettable. Regards, Owner

We appreciate your concern about plastic usage; while we've managed to eliminate single-use plastics, there are a few unavoidable instances where plastic is necessary for health, safety, and to preserve product freshness. However, we have robust recycling programs in place to ensure that any plastic we do use gets recycled.
