How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewWe booked the entire place and as per booking.com there were 4 bedrooms. The host decided to lock two rooms. My young daughters did not want to sleep on a different floor far away from us so it was rather uncomfortable.
Hello Hannes, thank you for the time and effort to your took to write me this review. I unfortunately do not agree with you. Your booking was made for 2 adults and 2 children, and you received the allocated rooms as per our configuration. 1 ensuite bedroom for the parents and 1 x bunker bedroom (2 bunker beds) for the children 7&11. You did not book the entire house, your booked for 4 people and not 10 which is the max occupancy of the house. Imagine booking for 4 people but 10 people arrives? That is not fair. We work on a scale price for per person sharing, if not otherwise enquired. You did not specify how you would like your room allocations. If you had wanted your children to each have their own queen en-suite bedroom, I would have setup your booking as such, but then their would have been a cost implication, which I am convinced you knew, but casually ignored. Then we have the issue of your booking & paying for 4 people but you brought another adult along which was not part of your booking. Due to your hostile behaviour I did not even mention an extra charge. Then I also do not understand that if that adult had to also sleep in a separate room, then who would have slept in the bunker bedroom? One of the children I presume, which then questions your complaint. In future do not assume. Please make sure that your booking is correct according to your expectations. It is your booking and your responsibility. Nevertheless, I will make sure in future that the guest is fully informed, I do hope that you still enjoyed your stay and our beautiful town.

Verified reviewThe location was perfect and scenery perfect. The landlord's communication 10/10 every step from how to check in and all basic things. Our apartment was nice and cozy for the number we had ( low key I regretted not taking the big house lol). I would go back again for the views and beauty of things. Very peaceful surroundings. We were very lucky and fortunate to have other guests who wanted everyone to have fun as 1 group and not having 2 separate groups in one location (bonus).
Adding lighting facing the pool and patio. Adding umbrellas (foldable) by the pool chairs so guests can enjoy the outdoor especially now in summer and to cater for guests using the 1 bedroom apartment.

Verified reviewThe house has stunning views, out of every window you just look onto an amazing mountain or the blue ocean. The house had everything and more that you would need for a very comfortable stay. We wish we could have stayed longer. The outdoor area is great, with a lovely big pool and nice braai area. The house is so big, really good value for money. We loved every minute of our stay!

The fact that we couldn't braai, but other people were braaing. Also, the bins in our apartment were not cleaned from the previous people's dirt was in there, so we had to put our dirt in plastic bags.
