Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United Kingdomalthough the property is lovely and in the middle of nowhere, you drive through a "iffy" town to start with.
lovely and peaceful, views of countryside and mountains, some still with a bit of snow/ice on top. bit of a rustic bush camp feel. great braai in the evening over an open fire, plenty of food and then a great cooked to order english breakfast.

South AfricaThe Apple Maps link in Booking.com directs you to another location. I missed the owners message letting me know there's a problem with the link, unfortunately. I feel like it needs to be taken down just in case others miss it as well. The Google maps link is fine.
The accommodation is amazing. We'll definitely return in summer with our families. And Mavel is the sweetest! Her service was top tier!

The Lodge is a bit outside of Touwsrivier, but worth the little detour. The rooms are sufficiently equipped with everything you need. The WiFi was okay and breakfast was nice.‘

United KingdomThe property is quite spread out, and the honesty bar/pool table area closed surprisingly early. On two nights we found everything shut by 9:30–10 PM, which felt a bit restrictive for a group of adults. Payments were handled manually with handwritten bills, which made things a bit clunky. A PAYG card system would have been more efficient. A bigger issue was a pricing miscommunication. Several of us joined what was advertised as a R200 “farm drive,” but were later told it was actually a “game drive” and charged double. There was no clear distinction or prior notice about different drive types or pricing tiers. After some back-and-forth, the original rate was honored, but it took more effort than it should have. There were some maintenance issues too—most notably, a fridge beam fell off and hit one of our group members, causing a minor injury. While we chalked it up to bad luck, the response could have been better. Unfortunately, interactions with the owner were unexpectedly curt, with moments that came across as dismissive. It left a disappointing impression at the end of what was meant to be a celebratory trip.
We stayed here with a large group of family and friends after our wedding in Cape Town in March — the perfect chance to wind down together. While the stay had some great moments, there were also a few bumps that made it a bit more stressful than we’d hoped. The rooms were clean, spacious, and comfortable, with good beds, hot showers, and cute little terrace areas. Simple, but just right for a group getaway. The pool and garden deck were lovely and definitely the highlight — ideal for relaxing and catching up. A wonderful space to chill out !! The restaurant breakfast was tasty (charged separately unless booked as part of your package), but be aware that coffee pods at the buffet aren’t included, even though they’re right there — and you’ll be charged for them later, which was a surprise for some of us. They do mark it but I didn’t see the sign. Dinner was good but not excellent — quite meat-heavy and on the oily side, depending on your preference. Home cooked vibes. The location has real potential, and there were some lovely moments—but unclear policies, poor communication, and inconsistent service took away from the experience.

United KingdomAccomodation was great, but we were over charged massively for a short trip to a neighbouring game reserve. If you need to make use of their service make sure you get a price confirmed first. We ended up paying hugely over the odds for a pick up and drop off.

South AfricaFacilities are a bit old, geyser was turned off when we arrived as it leaked severely when turned on (outside) so we manually had to go outside to turn it on and off the water supply whenever we needed to use the bathroom.
Very beautiful and secluded location. Delicious food options that we were not expecting, and on-site bar made it easy to sit back, relax and enjoy the stunning views of the countryside and wildlife.
