How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Could use more accessible outlets or lamps with USB charging ports.
It was very convenient and easy to get to. The room was clean and comfortable and has a nice little porch on the back.

Bad dog odor on the couch and floors dirty
I was grateful we were able to upgrade to one of the cottages, but the couch in the cottage smelled so much like dogs and dog hair all over the couch that it made you feel like you didn't even want to sit on the couch. That was the main reason I wanted to upgrade since it was a rainy cold weekend and we would spend more time in the room that intended, I wanted to have a comfortable place to sit instead of watching tv sitting on the bed. Also, it felt like the floors had not been swept. Plus I was told at the front desk they could extend the 10% off for being a repeat visitor and then told they couldn't. So was disappointed in that. We typically choose to stay a The Village Inn because of it's close proximity to everything. And you can hear everything next door. I heard doors slamming and loud noises coming from the cottage next to us until 1:00AM!

Every window was unlocked in our ground floor unit. We never saw any staff. One chair in the porch

A bit dated. The Pull out couch was uncomfortable.
Cute property with a lovely babbling brook behind it. Great location that’s convenient to everything the area offers.

Room was small bed was small bathroom was old-fashioned type but new. old fashioned tub a little hard to climb into to take a shower.

I was expecting a breakfast and they do not provide a breakfast so that was disappointing. The front desk closes at five so don’t expect service. They also were not open when we left at close to 10 am and we dropped key in an open box. That worried us because someone can easily retrieve the key and go into the room.
Place was cute with a slatted door covering the actual door. They used door keys which was refreshing. We walked from hotel to downtown Blowing Rock and that was easy and nice. They did provide a fridge and coffee maker and microwave.

Smoke alarm started chirping at 2:30. My husband is a fire Marshall . Went to front desk first thing in the morning for new batteries. They didn’t have any. Went to an unoccupied room and took the batteries out of their smoke detector. Made us very uneasy. Too dark. Better lighting and trash cans needed

It was older and could have used a little upkeep, but nothing major.
The property was in a great location for visiting Boone or Blowing Rock. The pond was frozen when we staid and it was absolutely beautiful.

The wifi didn't work and there was no cell reception. There was no parking available near our room (only a small issue because we had a child with a broken leg). Minor issues to us.

Retro tub somewhat difficult to use. Remotes for heating and 2 for tv were also difficult to navigate for a while, with no instructions.
Room layout, comfortable bed, sitting room, very clean, private deck overlooking stream.
