Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

Beautiful property! Location was easy to get around to Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Little Osaka, etc. Was probably the cleanest home stay I’ve had and Milo and Beth were great hosts with lots of knowledge of the area.

Nothing really. Maybe have been nice to have the immediate area outside the property a bit more landscaped to allow outside dining but we realise the charm of the place is in its quirkiness

The pool was very cold and the slide hasn’t been used in years. The hot tub made up for it :)

No blackout curtains to dim the bright string lights outside.

The cottage is a bit dated and unfortunately the beds were not comfortable. We only stayed two nights and both nights had difficulty sleeping since the mattresses were old. If you have more sensitivity to sleeping, I'd advise to stay elsewhere.
It's a quaint, clean, and rustic cottage next to the pool. The location was great close to Japantown and very accessible to the freeways. Milo kindly greeted us when we arrived and departed.

The host lives only steps away and is obviously very protective of his space, to the extent that we were afforded no privacy at all. He was always around, it felt like he was lurking. At one point he even walked up to the windows of the cottage to PEER INSIDE to see if we were in. We were! (Even if we weren't, still extremely uncool behavior.) It was very upsetting and we were eager to get out of there. There's a line between hospitality and intrusiveness and he was on the wrong side of it.
The space is incredible, the location is perfect. The cottage is beautiful and well-appointed, the pool is very cute.

Very intrusive host. He is nearby all the time - either cleaning something, or asking you for the twentieth time “is everything okay,” or, it seems, watching you from his nearby house with glass doors. No privacy at all. What kind of romance are we talking about??? The hot tub: you have to ask host to turn it on and after that he will ask you a few times "Are you coming to a hut tub or not yet? Should I keep it on or off? Are you done? Should I turn it off or you are coming again?" OMG, please!!! Give us some space and again, PRIVACY! Everything is old, dusty, and requires cleaning, painting, and replacement (let me say this: old can be also well managed and looking very good). Some parts around the pool are broken but in the photos they are in good condition bc it was taken a loooong time ago. All the pillows, mattresses and furniture on the patio are very "dated", dusty, it was definitely not ready for us or for anybody else. On the very first day, I washed, swept and cleaned everything myself (including in the garden), because my "other half" was completely upset. This is a simple guest house located almost right next to the owner’s house, so you are always under their close supervision. The living/sleeping space, including the kitchen is just a one small room. Parking near the house along the roadway and you also have to remember that you need to move the car some day (or hour?), otherwise it will be towed - a little difficult. We just wanted to relax, enjoy the silence, privacy, greenery....but it didn’t work out.
I liked the photos of this place, but on site everything turned out to be completely different.

The hot tub has to be turned on and off by the host, which felt like an inconvenience, especially when we asked to use it after we came back from dinner. It would be better for the host to have clear rules about when the pool/ hot tub can be used and allow guests to use them without hovering or complaining.
The room was wonderful-- clean, quiet, comfortable with beautiful light and a great smell. Lots of wonderful detailed touches. A very charming ambiance.
