How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe property is run down. Screen doors broken. Ants in the room. No water in the kitchen sink. No tv or ac. The photos of the property didn’t acurately depict the property. I felt deceived. The rooms you gave me were not worth what you charged.

Verified reviewWe came with our teenage boys to celebrate our anniversary while doing the road to Hana. The resort is beautiful and the staff were so kind and helpful. The lovely bag of snacks and card waiting in our room were a nice touch. The location was amazing and we definitely felt pampered. Our kids did not want to leave.
The rooms themselves could use a few updates. The tiling was a bit outdated and the floors were a bit scuffed up. We had stayed there 25 years ago and the bathrooms seem pretty similar to then.

Verified reviewThe gardens are sensational and extensive.
Our room was actually a whole apartment. Unfortunately, the interior was outdated and was in urgent need of a general cleaning. A lot could be done with the property. Too bad Hyatt doesn't expect the usual standard in this accommodation. Our bedroom was at ground level and the window had no curtain. It was the first hotel in our lives where people walking by could see right into our bed. The staff (including at breakfast) were friendly but not really welcoming.

Verified reviewIncredible property. Everything was on point. Food was excellent, rooms were clean and welcoming, scenery ect. The STAFF is what really made this place stand out. Super welcoming, helpful and friendly. Thank you to the entire staff, from the Ranch to the Hotel.
We enjoyed everything. Hot tubs would be a welcome addition.

Verified reviewHana is a very special place, Hana-Maui resort is the only proper resort / hotel in the area and it felt very special & privileged to be there. Hotel grounds are enormous and beautiful, the pool area has a breathtaking views. It is calm and quiet. The rooms are huge and the whole resort maintaining the style and atmosphere of the area, which is beautiful.
The rooms are somehow dated and would need some maintenance. There is only one hotel bar (at the pool) and it closes very early (late afternoon) so there is no option to have a drink in the evening. It’s a beautiful place - but one where you enjoy rest and quiet, some yoga, tenis etc. as other activities are a bit limited.

Verified reviewWe drove the famous Road to Hana and decided to spend the night rather than make the long return trip the same day. Staying at the Hana-Maui Resort was a great way to truly enjoy the area without feeling rushed—but be prepared for the price. It was more than triple what we paid per night in Lahaina, which definitely makes it a splurge. That said, the resort offers a lot. Parking was included, and the property has everything you might need for a comfortable and peaceful stay. The rooms are massive—more like mid-sized apartments than traditional hotel suites. The bed was very comfortable, and the space overall felt thoughtfully designed and relaxing. The grounds are expansive and beautifully maintained, with a quiet, tranquil vibe that's hard to find anywhere else on Maui. We especially enjoyed the infinity pool, catching the sunrise, and just taking in the peaceful surroundings. One highlight for me was the fitness room, which was impressively equipped with free weights, Peloton bikes, and more. Even better—it opens up to a second pool, allowing you to work out while still soaking in the tropical atmosphere. Dining options include an off-site restaurant and some fantastic food trucks just footsteps away—perfect for a flavorful and fuss-free feast. All in all, if you're willing to splurge for a serene, off-the-beaten-path experience in Hana, the Hana-Maui Resort delivers. It’s not budget-friendly, but it offers a unique kind of luxury you won’t find elsewhere on the island.

Verified reviewBeautiful resort in a peaceful town! The hotel room was clean and spacious. The resort is expansive with many amenities available to guests and beautiful views in all directions.
The rooms did not have AC but there were multiple ceiling fans, a sliding door, and windows that helped bring the cool air in. The staff also provided multiple standing fans which was very helpful.
