Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaAll the shared spaces are now part of the private club and no longer part of the Jane Hotel. Disappointed not to have anywhere to sit and do a bit of work, and that these spaces are still advertised on Booking.com as part of the hotel. No hot water for any of the times two of us tried to shower (early morning, morning, midday, evening, late evening).
The room we stayed in was a bunk room and really did have the feel of early 20th century sailors quarters. There is still a sense of authenticity for the (incredibly small, but utilitarian) rooms. The shared bathrooms were really clean.

United StatesThere was construction going on throughout the building with no access to any sort of common lounge area or cafe, and you had to use a freight elevator - I think I should have been given a discount for that. Also the shared bathrooms were cramped, awkward trying to brush your teeth next to a dude shaving lol.
It was fun to stay in the little cabin room for a night, and I enjoyed the decor, nice choice of fabrics, wall coverings, the beautiful wood paneling, etc. and it's in a great part of town.

United KingdomAbsolutely zero options for work (and unfriendly staff) - no kettle even downstairs to boil water. No place to work. Rooms were teeny tiny. Showers were under repair so I never got a hot shower
Tiny Room was clean, nice panelling and appointments, temp fine. Bathrooms were clean. There was electricity in the room to charge.

United KingdomShared bathrooms were unisex, didn’t feel very private. My room was sweltering, heating on full blast and unable to turn it down. I was advised to use the AC which only helped somewhat.

LuxembourgWe understood that work was being done but it meant that the feeling in the hotel was quite strange. The shared bathrooms were fine except that some of the people using them seemed to be living at the hotel. This meant that they often used the bathrooms to clean out old tubs of food or other utensils which it seemed they’d been using to cook in their rooms. My friend had a scary incident with one such person who made an inappropriate comment and after that we only ever went to the shared bathrooms together. There were no locks on the door and nothing to prevent anyone on the street from walking in, and at night it was rare that someone was working the desk.
The location is fantastic and the area feels safe.

AustraliaOnly thing is that the room gets extremely hot as it’s very small and you can’t turn off the heater. I had to open my window which had no fly netting to be able to sleep reasonably comfortably and not sweat.
The location is so great! The staff are friendly enough. Clean place. it’s good value for being right in New York. I do recommend staying here if you’re a tourist like we were because of the location and value for money.

United StatesI wasn't aware that The Jane's lobby/restaurant/bar had been lost to another development and that it is under significant renovation. This should be disclosed more clearly on the website because it affects the quality of guests' stay.
The Jane is an old favorite that I've stayed at several times before. It's affordable, with a good location.

United StatesI expected to share a bathroom but with more personal space. This was like a coed dorm and not all guests respond appropriately. For instance a guest on our floor was washing up at the main sink instead of the shower stall. We had to walk past him to get to a toilet stall.

United StatesA private club is under construction in the building so the hotel no longer has its elegant lobby, nor will it ever have the lobby again. The rooftop and the restaurant were also closed when I was there.
These little pod rooms seem to have been built 100 years ago to resemble sleeper cars on a train. Everything is in arms reach!

United StatesIt has been under reconstruction for several years now. All these fancy lobby and bars are closed. Only tiny rooms and bathroom on the floor. Rooms are OK. However, my experience was ruined because it doesn’t said anywhere that they closed every facility there due to renovation.

New ZealandNo tea or coffee making facilities. Tiny rooms . I think that this hotel, although charming in its way, is vastly over-priced, even for New York. My daughter lives in upState NY and so we just had one night in the city, but needing 2 rooms, it was a very expensive night.
Location was good.

United StatesThey're doing a multi million dollar renovation so during the weekdays it's filled with construction workers. Attempting to use the shower or lavatory was interesting as it was generally full. It's also coed so that may make some people feel uncomfortable. The rooms require a brass rod to complete the circuit to work the electric. Hopefully they will modernize the electric with the rest of the facilities.
It was comfortable. I found it to be unique and historical. The employees were very nice.
