Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThe “balcony” feature is a bit over exaggerated. From my third floor room, I was surrounded by walls and industrial AC’s and whatever other machines. Hardly a place to relax.
It’s good value. At $350/night, it’s a good deal. No bells and whistles.

United StatesIt advertises balconies, and we did have a balcony, but it was just overlooking all the rooftops of adjacent buildings, and we couldn’t see the city at all, but it was advertised a city view. It was a little dated and worn, but not too bad . They were not good outlets in places that were convenient .
The best part about this hotel was its location. It was a three minute walk to Grand Central Station, which we were excited about because we were traveling back-and-forth to Queens on the train for the U.S. Open.

Location. Bed was super comfortable. Shower had good pressure. Room was the perfect size for a visit to NY. Clean. The staff were informal in a very professional manner.

United StatesOur only complaints are that the TV reception wasn't the best, and the bathroom had no towel bars. Also, updated phone charges are needed on the nightstands.
Loved the location, walking distance to Grand Central Station and other attractions, and the boutique size of the hotel. We also loved its unique architectural features, and the on-site restaurant is excellent. The outdoor decks on upper levels are cozy places to enjoy the midtown scenery. We totally enjoyed our stay and our interactions with the professional staff at the Gotham. Will definitely keep The Gotham Hotel on our list of top choices for a stay in NYC and recommend it to others.

It was a pleasure having someone open the door for us , they were so kind and informative at the front desk. Breakfast was good but wish we could use the 20$ towards that than for the liquor in the room :). Thank you!! Will be back.

United StatesThe blinds weren’t great at blocking out the city lights
Staff was very friendly, Brandon checked us in and he was great. The room was super spacious especially for NYC. Very clean, comfortable bed, relatively quiet, strong air conditioning. We enjoyed sitting on the large community balcony in the evening.

UkraineCleaning stuff is definitely lazy (if it's not a hotel rule). They clean the room every day but floor in the room was dusty like a hell. During five days no one checked and refilled coffee capsules and coffee cups. Looks like they just made a bed, change towels and clean the bathroom but nothing else. Room is noisy because of all these technical engines located outside so room's balcony is absolutely useless.
I don't like to spend a lot of time in public transport during vacation. So location for me is always important and the hotel is located really good for my needs. Also the hotel has public balconies on few top floors with lovely view. The stuff on reception desc is very friendly.

United StatesThe only minor issue was how dirty the Nespresso machine was.
Rooms are bigger than standard NYC rooms. It's really perfect for a quick stay. We were on a lower floor so it was very loud bc of the street noise but it's NYC. Hotel gave us mini bar credit. Staff was pleasant and let us check in early. A great upside of the hotel location is that there are 5 coffee spots directly under.

United StatesThe Gotham delivers exceptional hospitality in NYC. As a boutique hotel, it doesn’t have the brand recognition that the big hotel chains, but it far out-performs the big brand names. Each and every employee we encountered - from the front desk to the bell men to the room service delivery man - was warm, helpful, accommodating, and welcoming. The Gotham’s hospitality matched with its location makes it a perfect place to stay while in Midtown Manhattan. I plan to stay here several times in the next couple of months and will recommend it to my friends when they travel to New York City.

United KingdomNot sure it's the hotels fault but each morning, we were woken very early with the sound of bin lorries (which we understand but noisy) and on one morning a lorry was sitting outside for a good 25 minutes with it's engine running.. we were on the 5th floor facing the street.
The room was clean and spacious with housekeeping every day..
