Nothing, a fantastic stay at a iconic hotel

Location to Michigan Avenue and shops with a view over the lake. Mid way between Soldier Field and Wrigley Field. Brilliant location for food too.

My room was OK, although very small and no view, which was mainly because I opted for a lower priced room.

Very good, but rates unclear and they didn't know we had 15$ rate for breakfast.

The Valet at the front seemed aggressive to get our car, though we were just unloading. He also seemed to press for our photograph at the end to possibly get paid. We had a 15$ rate for each of our breakfasts, but virtually impossible to get a good breakfast for that rate, so we had to pay extra for that.

    Super accommodations. Good Breakfast

The hotel was beautiful and in a great location close to shops and restaurants. We really enjoyed the bar inside the hotel, the dirty martini was the highlight of my birthday trip. We really enjoyed doing the valet parking because driving and parking in Chicago can be overwhelming.

Robes in the bedroom could have been a nice touch and I think the front desk staff were a little cold. Particularly one gentleman. He was a quiet talker, it was difficult to hear him.

The bar was really great and our room was wonderful. Especially the view! I loved the historic nature of the hotel and all that has been done to keep it going.

Rooms in need of reno. Little to no bathroom counter space and very noisy ac/heating unit. Had to request maid service when room still hadnt been made up by 1pm. Beautiful lake view but windows so dirty you could barely see it. Not worthy of a $400+ per night pricetag.

This hotel is so outdated that it's laughable. The cheap and outdated furnishings inside the rooms look like a cross between TJ Maxx and your grandmother's guest room. If the Drake wants to keep pace with the other Michigan Avenue hotels, it needs to do a major, major renovation! Not sure I'd stay there again.

    Great location and comfortable beds.

As sometimes happens with older hotels, the plumbing was quirky -- and loud. The water temperature in one shower fluctuated during use for no apparent reason. In the other bathroom -- and again, hooray for having two -- the toilet at one point spit upward like a geyser. There were random audible gurgles from each, apparently in response to water usage in other rooms. For presumably the same reason, the geyser unit occasionally decided on its own to drain. There was almost an entertainment value to it all. Be forewarned that the Drake uses a peculiar numbering system for its rooms. Ours, 378, was the highest on the floor -- but it wasn't at the end of the hall. The numbers wrap around, so we were partway down the hallway back in the direction of the elevator bank.

For only $20 extra per night, we were able to upgrade to a larger room with a bathroom on either side. I wouldn't call it a suite, exactly -- the only chairs were the one at the desk and a small one wedged into an alcove near the closet -- but it had two bathrooms, which was hugely convenient. Also a plus: friendly staff, from the doormen and valets to the bellmen to the front desk. The Drake is a classic, and you don't have to explain where you're headed when you catch a cab.

Above, re: breakfast.. We love a proper Tea. We attended. The service and the atmosphere were fabulous. The servers were impeccable. The food was only mediocre at best

I have always wanted to stay at the Drake, due to its reputation, older, iconic, etcetera. No disappointments. The room selected for us was beyond expectations. Beautiful, 6 huge windows. The bed was super comfortable, great linens. Our only disappointment-room service. We wanted a lovely breakfast. Breakfast was delivered in all paper, disposable service. Unhappy with that. We wanted real Serviceware .

The staff at valet were horribly rude. I came with my car and they dictated me to leave my car and luggages and told me that they help for all. They overwhelmed me by instructions and tickets etc. They dont even listen to me and directly sent me to reception. When i get in my room, a man brought my luggages and i had no idea that i have to give huge tip. I was unprepared, i did not have lots of cash so i gave him a small amount of cash. Here is the disturbing part, he got the tip and he counted it then he did not like it. He embarressed me because of the tip. And whenever i pass from the reception or the door to go out, he was starring at me and telling other people. He embarresed me during all my stay and disturbed me by starring his eyes and nagging. On the other hand, this kind of elite hotel should be much more careful about valet team, all valet staff was so disturbing and unpleasent. The conversation between valet staff is so so so much disturbing, offensive and definately not good for the hotel consept. This is not a bad & breakfast kind of hotel, this supposed to be an elite and nice hotel with whole staff. But valet and luggage carry staff was terrible disturbing and definately not elite. This is the only reason that i will never stay this hotel, and not suggesting solo women travelers to stay at this hotel. Staff is so disturbing and harressing people by their eyes and unpleasant conversations!!!

I loved all arhitecture, consept and location.

Overall our return stay was still lovely but in a different room/floor than first night and wasn't as nice. It was a little drab, smaller and faded, but same price as first night's stay so that was a little dissappointing. Also, the lady in the souvenir shop on right hand side on ground floor was quite hostile and unfriendly, she glared at us and barely spoke, I found her manner quite baffling considering we were buying a gift there! Just to clarify we also popped into another shop which had flowers, and that was lovely.

We book-ended our trip, returning again to the Drake for the final night of our holiday. The Christmas tree and decor were still as impressive as when we first arrived on day one. We also enjoyed dining in the bar Coq d'Or again, it has the perfect classic decor and lighting (1920s/30s) of which I'm very fond of! Tasty food, attentive service and a good buzzy atmosphere, people dropping in for Christmas drinks etc.

Beautiful Christmas Tree and decor in Lobby, friendly check-in, amazing afternoon tea in the Palm Court. Personally I love the old world charm and character of this hotel.
