Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesLocated on East 23rd it was obvious after a brief walk that the area was not very conducive.
The suite we had was gorgeous with the amazing work done by craftsmen in the yesteryears.

United KingdomAbsolutely nothing about the hotel !!! Perfect in every way. However, the staff at the Chelsea cafe weren’t as friendly and helpful as the hotel. Our waitress was pretty grumpy and made our wedding day breakfast uncomfortable. We didn’t go back to eat there again, even though the food was delicious.
Iconic, historic, legendary hotel with luxury experience, in a great location for exploring. The decor is beautiful, original features respectfully restored and in keeping with original design. We had a room with balcony next to the sign ! Bath tub and seated area. Staff were so helpful and friendly and made our stay perfect, we were given complimentary room upgrade and wine as we were staying at the Chelsea to get married. Steps away from subway. Ideal place to explore the more interesting neighbourhoods in Manhattan and avoid the traditional tourist areas. An easy subway ride over to Brooklyn too. Chelsea flea and Chelsea market around the corner.

United StatesThe elevators are very slow and it can be a long wait. We were on the 3rd floor so we mostly used the stairs.
The location was great, staff was awesome, the Chelsea Suite was beautiful and comfortable. The Lobby Bar was fantastic! We didn’t get to the restaurants but we will next time.

SwitzerlandSeems like it takes quite a beating from high traffic so not in pristine condition but that is common in New York. Very expensive but again that is New York... Micro-location not the most charming.
Location is very convenient. Fun atmosphere in the public spaces. Great breakfast in the restaurant. Staff very friendly.

United StatesWhen I booked at this hotel, I had no idea of its status as an iconic hotel. I booked for its location and online photos. Traveling with my 30-something daughter for a long weekend, we wanted to pack in as many visits as possible to the different neighborhoods, eateries, shows, museums, parks and NYC hot spots. The hotel is in a perfect location, with nearby subway stations, quick taxi availability and easy walking to great restaurants, bars, shopping, parks and museums. The hospitality at the hotel is phenomenal. On arrival, after delayed flights and re-routing, our weary selves were greeted by two amazing, friendly and efficient front desk staff, Te'a and Clint, who's kind professionalism made us feel right at home, in good hands and fully informed about what services and options the hotel offered. We booked a dinner for the next night in the cafe, and it was a winner! The room was big and the amenities were generous. Housekeeping services were exceptional with nightly turndown service. This hotel is a real gem. I'll read the book, Inside the Dream Palace before my next stay. There's so much to learn and know about the Hotel Chelsea!

United StatesThis hotel fit our experience perfectly - But if you are looking for lively nightlife it may be lacking.
Centrally located in Manhattan, this property is perfect for those who love to explore on foot, with many attractions within walking distance. The lobby exudes a warm, inviting “Old New York” charm that reflects the building’s rich history. Onsite dining offers delicious options, and the spa is a standout feature—pure perfection. Rooms are well-appointed with comfortable bedding, respectable toiletries, and excellent water pressure. Our king room included a convenient closet area off the bathroom for luggage storage—a thoughtful touch. Street noise was minimal, and we experienced no disturbances from other guests or hallway noise after hours. The Lobby also seemed well managed by the 24/7 staff - solo female travelers will feel safe and cared for.

Stayed at the Chelsea Hotel — what a vibe! Incredible atmosphere, warm and personal. I had a request to change rooms, and the team was beyond accommodating — they turned a regular trip into something unforgettable. I wish the whole world could treat people the way you do. Thank you

This was the best hotel experience I've had in memory. It's a little pricey but beyond worth it, seriously. The renovation could not be more tasteful, common areas so comfortable and dreamy. Excellent food, drinks, service. 11/10, perfect New York hotel.

United StatesMy wife and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary in New York and were looking for memorable accommodations. There are more expensive places to stay. There are more luxurious places to stay. However, there is no hotel with more character, and charm, and warmth than the Hotel Chelsea. The staff were kind and knowledgeable and the location on 23rd St was within walking distance of so many locations we wanted to visit. Top marks.

AustraliaThere was no desk or even a chair in the room - given size of the bed it would have been hard to fit a table and chair in, but something they could have considered when they re-did the rooms. Similarly the toilet in the bathroom was wedged uncomfortably into a corner. Again I blame the re-decorators.
It has been very lovingly restored to its former glory (or even beyond that). Staff are very friendly and restaurant was excellent. Definitely a bucket list place to stay.

AustraliaLighting on the dim side - fine everywhere except the generous dressing room where these old eyes could have used more light.
Staying at the Chelsea was an exceptional experience. Apart from our late night check-in (missed flight) to a substandard room - the problem was rectified the next day. All the staff, and I mean all, were friendly, happy and seemed very pleased and proud of their hotel - it was infectious! The hallways were like art galleries, the rooms realistically authentic.

NetherlandsI had a lovely stay at this charming hotel, Although the design is older, it has a unique character and warmth that I really appreciated. The decor features beautiful touches of copper, marble, and wood which gave it a stylish yet cozy feel. Was clena and comfortable. The staff were kind and helpful - they even gave us a voucher for breakfast on the first day which was thoughtful. The breakfast itself wasn't huge but it had everything you'd want to start the day right. Thank you for the great experience - I'll definitely be staying again!
