Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesStarfire Retreat was very cute, clean, well stocked kitchen. Had drawing paper and colored pencils to share some special art with owner, vintage record player, etc. Small but comfortable and plenty of room to relax and enjoy the desert outside and star gaze. Pretty chilly in evening for us so not much star gazing (february).

FinlandWhat a fun, comfortable and inspiring place to experience the beautiful desert. We enjoyed star gazing and getting up early to see the sunrise as well. The musical instruments and indoor & outdoor games were a nice addition to our stay! We loved this place.

LatviaA real hidden gem in the middle of nowhere. The house is absolutely amazing, well stocked, cozy, and beautifully decorated. It truly felt like home away from home. There is nothing you could lack here. Fully stocked and well equipped kitchen and laundry room, breakfast snacks from the hosts, beautiful BBQ area, grill, hot tub, books, board games, vinyl record player, and even a telescope! We didn't wanna leave this place. The dirt road to the property might be a bit challenging for smaller cars, but the instructions from the host were spot on, and the ride was a lovely adventure.

United StatesI mean if there's anything to not like it would just be the road, but that was an adventure as well!! It wouldn't keep me from ever staying there!
We loved everything! We came out there to explore JTNP, but we also got to explore the sweet little house. So many fun finds, the record player, the northern lights light in the bedroom. All of the cute nightlight, and the house was fully stocked baggies sunblock spices shampoo and conditioner, even eye makeup remover wipes, such great touches everywhere! The decor had such a fun vibe! We loved the dipping pool that we used after hiking, and the stargazing bed was so comfortable. Sitting around the fire pit at the end of the day was also so relaxing! Such a great weekend!

United StatesStarfire was everything I was looking for. Easy ride (9.2 miles) to Joshua Tree N.P. Visitor Center. Secluded and quiet. Great kitchen, stocked with spices, oil, foil, and all the pots, pans and utensils you would want. Gas grill was a big plus. Hung out on the front porch after my hikes, and at night I watched the stars from the special gazing bed. Master bed was very comfortable. TV and internet worked fine, but I enjoyed the phonograph and record library even more. Simply a great getaway hideout for one or two.

SwitzerlandThis is a lovely and cozy home. It offers everything you need - from first aid kit and torches, all the way through to DVDs and corn hole - for a comfortable stay in a quiet and remote corner of Joshua Tree. The WiFi was reliable. The star gazing bed was a nice touch, and at a hotter time of year I’m sure the outdoor tub would also be great to use. The property can only be accessed via a dirt road (we had hired a mid-size SUV for our trip), which adds to the adventure.

United StatesAfter the date I could cancel the reservation without penalty, the owner sent me an email letting me know the dishwasher did not work. Also, the web-site said the property had a pool which turned out to be a metal tub (looked like a round water trough for horses) with two inches of brown water in the bottom of it. The owner also said on the web-site that there was a "snack bar" in the home. Turns out that was a small table situated as a kitchen island sporting two individual serving boxes of sugary cereal and two granola bars. The bathroom door was sagging off of the top hinge making it impossible to shut the door. The remote neighborhood made me feel like a meth lab could have easily been down one of the many dirt roads. The chain link fence surrounding the property only added to that atmosphere. The furniture looked like everything came from various garage sales. And even though the owner encourages you to shop for groceries before you take the 2.5 miles of dirt road to the house, when you arrive, there is no actual place to store non-perishable groceries. There's a pantry in the kitchen, but it's locked. In general, it appeared as though the owner(s) had not seen the property in quite some time as nothing seemed maintained that well. Overall, the property description was misleading at best. Thankfully, with the help of booking.com, we only stayed one of two nights booked and were given a refund for the 2nd night after I sent pictures of the property to booking.com. It's important to note that there was a rental permit posted in the house that had expired as of 7/2/22, so I'm not even certain if it's legal for the owners to be renting the place out.
The main bed was comfortable. The washer/dryer, stove, and refrigerator were all newer. The internet worked pretty well. Lots of pots, pans, utensils, etc.
