    Good location, cute deco

    • Superior King Room
    • Stayed 1 night

It's an historical building with old construction design, and if your room is facing the tiny quadrangle (old fire escape?), it's dark and you have to keep the blinds/drapes closed all the time because proximity of the neighbor rooms windows are so close and directly facing each other. The room pictures in Booking.com (sunlight coming from windows) are deceiving. If you are claustrophobic like me, tell them ahead. I had to switch the room from Superior King to regular King which had a tiny crack of sky from the window. (The rate difference refund wasn't offered.) The elevators are over 100 years old, so they have double doors that you have to open/close by hand. That's kinda fun to do the first couple of times, but it gets old quickly because they are very heavy and hard to handle by yourself especially when you have luggage.

Stayed one night to go to a concert at the nearby Balboa theater. The location was perfect. The French theme deco was very cute. Good size bathtub. The bath robe was a nice touch. Staff are friendly and helpful. I wish I had a chance to go to the rooftop bar!

I had to extend my initial reservation. Neither Booking nor the hotel would do it, instead saying it was the other party's responsibility. I had to make a new reservation. Room was nice but small, with a very tiny sink. All windows looked at dirty walls and AC piping making a lot of noise.

Historic building with great views from the rooftop.

Celebrating dads 80th birthday in downtown San Diego
    • Leisure trip

The lift was an old fashioned one with a door then a gate to pull open that was quite dangerous, didn’t like that! Also I booked a suite - there were no windows in the bedrooms, very clever use of materials to give the illusion of curtains. In the seating area the windows there were overlooking a courtyard that was very dark which in turn made the room dark and very hard to judge the outside weather

Staff were lovely and friendly. I had booked this trip for my dad’s 80th birthday and was given a voucher for a drink each for the bar. My dad particularly enjoyed the sweets that were in reception every day! Room was lovely and clean and well appointed

Cute historic hotel despite some hiccups
    • Leisure trip

    • King Room

Our room was very small, and the window was 90% covered up by the air conditioning unit, so very little light was able to enter, and we were not able to look out to the street. The window was also dirty, which further reduced the availability of natural light. The overall effect was to make us feel a bit claustrophobic. Housekeeping was by request only, but when we put in a request for a change of sheets on our bed, they simply dropped off a new top sheet and some towels in our room; they did not change the sheets or even give us a full set of bedding so we could do it ourselves. This is a pet-friendly hotel, but they were unable to provide dog bowls when we asked for them, which was surprising. The rooftop lounge was closed to guests for a private party for most of the day we spent there, which would have been more disappointing if the rooftop had come equipped with more than some outdoor sofas and potted plants.

Very convenient location in the Gaslamp quarter, with pretty easy parking nearby. We loved the historic interiors and the beautiful fixtures throughout the room. Decor was kitschy in a good way. Bed was comfortable. We liked the diner next door, and we also appreciated that this is a dog friendly hotel.

We got charged for mini bar items. We made sure we did not touch the food or mini bar items in the hotel, which were overpriced. If it wasn't for me checking my bank account and final checkout receipt from the hotel, I wouldn't have noticed the extra charges. I texted them about them about situation. They said they would notify management and 2 hours later they refunded me my money. Also parking was a lot but hey now we know for next time. Valet is offered which is good 👍

I loved the style of the room and the antiques. They did renovate it. My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary and we loved the roof top ! Even though the bar wasn't opened for the two days. Maybe on weekends only?

They didn't clean the room every day, even if I had requested it. Elevator was slow. You needed to spend some time to wait for the elevator.

Nice hotel, but not for business

You can hear everything from outside, it is difficult to rest at night if you are a light sleeper. It is not a hotel for business, the wifi is really bad and there is no area where to work, not even around, there are no cafes or restaurants where you can work. We were there for work, and we did struggle.

The location and the staff were nice, it was close to whatever we needed that was the convention center. Also the decoration is nice.

The location was to near the loud nightclubs and the noise kept you awake.

The location was convenient to many places but also near the nightclubs so the weekend noise level was high when you tried to sleep. The staff was great! Helpful and friendly
