How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewBeautiful inn! Clean, comfortable, and great service. Breakfast was delicious and the space was very inviting.
The shower in my room wasn't sealed super well so some water got on the floor outside of it. But there were plenty of towels, so no major issue.

Verified reviewQuaint and charming, but with updated facility. helpful hosts, good food. up the hill a bit from the busy downtown which makes it quiet and peaceful. I brought my bike so it was an easy ride to get around the beautiful countryside. Have stayed here before many times and will definitely be back.

Verified reviewGreat location - away from the business of the in-town area but still close. Breakfast variety was good and most cooked food was good except that the potatoes were too salty and the hashbrowns could have been cooked from stratch. Very good coffee, great yougurt and juce options too. We loved the back deck and yard - beautiful and relaxing area to eat breakfast and just read early in the morning. The front entrance with gorgeous flowers and lit lanterns on the walkway were beautiful as one entered the front door in the evening. The floral bouquets on each table both inside and outside were a lovely accent too! Our room was large with most comfortable bed and pillows - the inn was quiet and its was very easy to rest and get a great night's sleep!
There were a few ants in the bathroom both days but they were very small and near the walls.

Verified reviewThe property was very clean and picturesque, with a great deal of Block Island character. The rooms were well appointed, spacious and air conditioned. The beds were large and comfortable. The free breakfast was top notch. The location is right near the beach and close to a lot of the restaurants and attractions. Neil is a great host and very responsive.

Verified reviewI liked the location since it was farther from the downtown area which is too busy for me but close enough to the beach and right on the roads towards the airport to see the other sights on the island. The inn was very clean with helpful and friendly staff. There was free coffee and lemonade at all times which was greatly appreciated. The property also has a spacious backyard with hammocks, chairs, etc.
I wish the room was a bit bigger or it was communicated how small it would be. The bathroom was tiny. The stairs going to the room were also very steep and would be dangerous for older visitors.

Verified reviewThe location is ideal for anyone wanting to be away from the hustle and bustle of downtown, yet close enough to get there in minutes when desired. Go in another direction, and you are close to beaches and walking trails. The Inn is spacious inside and out, with plenty of spaces for conversation or relaxation. My dog was welcomed by staff and other guests, many of whom also had dogs this trip. Breakfast was served hot, in ample amounts, and delicious. The staff greeted us with a warm welcome and was gracious and accommodating throughout our stay (3 nights).
An orb hasn't found me, yet! ... and I really don't mind using that as an excuse to go back.

Verified reviewThe sister of the proprietor was very nice. It was a out of the way Inn if you didn't want to be right in Block Island downtown.
No TV in the room. And there was told to us by the man that managed the Inn that after 10pm it was quiet time like we were children or whatever. I definitely didn't like being told that. We were the only Black people there at that time. Some people that were staying there spoke and some looked at us like we shouldn't even be there. We had to pay 14.00 everything we got into a taxi cab. The price we spend on this room was not worth it at all. I took my husband for his 70th birthday and when we lefted the Inn he told me that that trip to Block Island was the trip from Hell. We never got to see to much of anything. If to go to Block Island again I will look somewhere else to lay my head.
Sorry for your disappointment but would like to clarify a few things. The posting on booking.com does not show a TV and our website says in BOLD letters AC But NO TV. Most people come to the Island to enjoy a time to detach and being an Inn not a hotel, we purposely don't have TV's so that we don't have to deal with people disturbing other guests. I am sorry if you felt treated like a child but I tell every guest that quiet time is 10pm, as stated above then that ensures people peace and quiet. I would encourage you to do research before booking a place you have never stayed, as the distance from the ferry is laid out on the website, in the confirmation email and the 7 day prior email that you would have received. This would have told you that based on your husbands movements that our location was not the right fit for you. Being a gay man and the father of a black son, I would spin your implied racism that you felt. As I have shared with many guests, after 6 seasons of running the Inn, I have become good at reading the guest on the level of engagement that they want from me! Some guests are here to enjoy their getaway and if they don't engage I let them enjoy themselves...others who want to engage, I spend more time with and they often strike up conversations with other guests through out their stay. Racism is a reality and I don't want to dismiss how you felt but I think sometimes, not all times, it the more introverted personality of the other people that may send the wrong signal. I wish you all the best, Neal Owner
