Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesBreakfast is advertised but it isnt more than just bagels, donuts, pastries, coffee and tea. I would have liked more good options and tables to sit at - but eating in the room works well too.
I loved the quiet location which was surprising considering it is immediately off the highway. The room and building is beautiful. Beds are comfortable. Location is close to shops and restaurants.

United StatesIn 15 years of using booking.com I have only reviewed two motels. One in Brighton, CO that was a dump and one in North Platte, NE. That was older but was spotless. Here is my 3rd review: Mountain View lodge & cabins Hill City SD. Is owned and operated by one of the nicest most generous young couple I have ever met. The day of our arrival we received a call from them as an introduction of themselves and their lodge. We stayed two nights and we had zero wants. The family room #7 was spotless and nothing over looked. But that was just part of our stay, from the complementary drinks at check-in to the fresh bagels and coffee in the morning there was nothing more we could’ve asked for. Book your stay early because the super place will fill up fast.

United StatesThe advertising implies that a lodge room will have a private patio or balcony with great views. In fact the "balcony" is just the access walkway in front of all the second floor rooms which all the guests use to go to and from their rooms. The view from the "balcony" is the parking lot below, and a four-lane highway lined with commercial businesses.
The location was excellent for our needs. The room was sparkling clean and comfortable.

I didn't eat the breakfast because I am gluten free, but a continental breakfast is provided. The rooms were clean and spacious. The view was beautiful, and the location is great for getting around in the Black Hills. The owner and his family are on site and very attentive to your needs.

United StatesWe had an absolutely wonderful stay at Mountain View Motel! Nestled just outside Hill City off Hwy 16, it’s a quick 5-7 minute drive into town, making it incredibly convenient for exploring all the attractions in the area. We stayed in Room 4—small, quaint, and perfect for taking a mid-day break before meeting back up with the kids. But here’s what you really need to know: **CLEAN! BEAUTIFUL! IMPECCABLY MAINTAINED!** The deck is fully prepared with grills, tables and shade to prepare your own meals. And the Dairy Stand across the street made for the perfect quick treat. Melissa and her husband are on-site, and their warmth and hospitality truly make this place special. The rustic decor adds to the charm, the bed and bedding were incredibly comfortable, and the air conditioning? **Absolutely top-notch!** We actually slept *great*—something rare for us when traveling. If you’re looking for a cozy, well-kept place with a personal touch, **Mountain View is the one to book.** You won’t regret it! This is an authentic review. Nothing has been received from the host.

United StatesIt is very close to the highway so it was pretty noisy but not much could be done about that.
Mountain view lodge was amazing! Beds were so soft and comfortable and check in was so easy! There was a small sitting area on the too deck that we used each night and was amazing! They had a little breakfast for us each morning and were very friendly!

The inside decor was very nice for the size, with live-edge shelving and furniture. The pillow top bed was really comfortable for both of us (sleep number bed at home), and the pillows were so nice, we ordered 3 before even leaving (Bellagio at Home). Location was central to our sightseeing and worked out really well for us. The mini-fridge also has an actual freezer which came in handy also. We were able to check in early.

United StatesSince answered this above, I will answer the above question now. The proprietors were kind and helpful. The view and ambience made us feel in the rustic, mountain spirit. We loved have the electric fireplace!
No breakfast though advertised. We were told coffee and doughnuts were served in season. We did not realize season was a factor. Obviously we had never been to SD! Also no closet in the room was new to us.
